That's only talking about the Knoxville market.

The ratings numbers is. The 2.5 mil isn't, unless Knoxville blew up in population recently.

Not surprising, but always nice to get affirmation that we have the most popular baseball program in the country. It makes it even cooler that we had a really meh regional (in terms of marquee teams, etc)... there were much better regionals than ours this past weekend, yet we still led the pack.

yeah I just read the link. that was a misguiding link as others have said.

ETA: also accounts for more than 1 game though. doesn't give a true apples to apples until you compare MCWS finals to that 2.5 million

I doubt they would rather put LSU on tv for a regional. Talk radio had a guy on earlier this week from baseball america explaining the Reason teams like UCLA and Cal St. make tv with 500 people in th stands is because their fans would never seek them out on ESPN 3 to watch them so TV is the only way to get coverage for those teams. ESPN knows every single LSU fan will seek out whatever means neccessary to watch the game.

Baseball America. Screw those guys

I can't wait to see how the Men's CWS numbers compare

It's gonna have a comparable number. CWS usually has like 1.5 million viewers.

It is worth noting that over 11% of the viewership on ESPN3, which had 100 total games, came during just the LSU vs ULL game. That is unreal. ALso, that doesn't include viewers from the first 2 LSU games. Basically, I would guess that LSU games made up about 20% of all online viewing.

Think at proves what we all k
New. Outside of lsu no one really cares about it.

Softball has a weird stop and watch effect to it. You can catch yourself watching inning or two of it if the pitcher is not. Outside of us liking college baseball and casually watching non lsu games, no one is stopping casually on a regional college baseball game

I don't think that's what he was saying. We can have the most popular baseball program in the country without being nationally popular.

When saying ratings showed we were most popular I took it as more people around nation watched us. A may be case but I was just thinking it was lsu being more hardcore fan base watching their team is why it was high.

We may be saying same thing

They're (ESPN) just hoping LSU can make it back to the finals.

quote:

Ratings also vastly improved for the CWS Finals between LSU and Texas.
The CWS Finals reached an average 2.059 million households, 2.762 million viewers and had a 2.1 rating to become the highest rated CWS Finals ever. It was a marked increase over last year's figures of 1.664 million households, 2.193 million viewers and a 1.7 rating. That means percentage increases of 24 percent, 26 percent and 24 percent.

Also worth noting, the three CWS Finals games were three of the top four highest rated CWS games in ESPN history. Game 3 between LSU and Texas was the most viewed game ever for the CWS and the second highest-rated game ever.

ESPN3’s coverage of LSU vs. Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, June 2, is the network’s most-viewed NCAA baseball game

I figured that was going to be the case. That's why they put us on ESPN 3, to boost online viewership and charge more for ads on ESPN3.com

I bet 11 minutes is the avg time in between commercial breaks.

ETA: Well, I read that wrong.

Good job tiger fans, feeding the ESPN monster.

I was just reading that same article. Couldn't find anything more current.

LSU vs Texas in 09
Game 3 - 3,160,000 viewers
Game 2 - 2,620,000 viewers
Game 1 - 2,500,000 viewers

softball this year had a championship series totaling 2.5 million viewers total for the 2 games

I still want to know how the ACC and SEC tournamnent CGs did in the ratings that Sunday before Memorial Day. I can't imagine it's a huge TV weekend in the first place, but if those two games did ok, it could lead to more games on the regular channels.
