One would think he could take a semester off and then come back.

you still manage to miss the point. Why hold off until a day before camp to let the kids know they may not be able to honor their scholarship? There were reports ALL summer long that the three kids that didn't report in June had a good shot at making it. Yea, Miles was the one that lost here.

how can u sign a kid not expecting him to qualify

The point is the signed 7 or so questionable thinking 1 or 2 wouldn't qualify which in the past was a decent bet.

not really, because it's happening.

What happens if 7 kids don't make it?

He's a terrible recruiter because he should have spent more time on kids that would have made it.

You don't know we didn't tell him it was possible. UT came calling awfully quick for a guy taken "off guard"

This is fine, but the bottom 2 or 3 targets on commit list should be notified that their scholarship offer could be turned gray.

Porter wasn't.

Don't have any more info on it other than what TSD reported that the kids were just informed of the greyshirt. Seems things changed pretty recently w/ Porter and his decision to go to UT. Doesn't seem like a kid that had a backup plan all along.

Just a guess, but Dooley may have recruited him at Louisiana Tech, or at least had an established relationship with Archbishop Shaw coach to bring this along.

Also TN may have been recruiting him while Frank Wilson was there, so he may have had an established recruiting relationship established with TN.

Correct me if I'm way off base here, but the fact that Porter's grayshirt was confirmed today doesn't mean he was never told this was a possibility. Or did I miss something?

I think we all know what this thread would turn into... those that dislike Miles would come run to bash him and those that dont would come to defend.

Shocker.

Shea clarified his post.

He was told by sources yesterday and Porter and Cam were informed before he was.

It sucks but not something mind boggling but I hope for the best for Porter. Greyshirts are usually offered days before camp after the clearinghouse issues are resolved. We were lucky the clearinghouse questions were all answered before camp this time.

could means possible to me, not necessarily likely. Regardless hope it happened better than it appears.

No you don't...then you'd have less ammo to shoot off at the coaching staff, Miles, etc.

I'm as big a LSU and coaching staff supporter as you will find, but this is kind of a dick move.

Support CM anyway I can, and I know it happens at all schools. Still doesn't make it right. Really feel bad for the kid. Wish him the best and hope some how NCAA can put an end to this practice.

at the end of the day this was porter's decision, asking him to wait a semester to enroll and take a hike are 2 totally different things. Porter doesn't want to wait and will go elsewhere.

Best point in this whole thread. It's a shame it only took 7 pages to get to this point.
