NCAA Rulebook explains why INT return was a (EDIT 2) Mess
Along with the """"forward progress nonfumble"""" as was the fumble over-rule.

Maybe the officials were true Freshman too?

Rewarding the fumbling team the ball in such a situation basically lets 2 people off the hook for their combined mistakes. The premature TD signal by the official and the fumble by the runner.

I think the rule is appropriate. It's penalty enough to take the TD off the board, and I don't think you should reward the defense (or offense in this case) with a turnover for something they didn't force - simply because a kid drops the ball early. Some coaching staffs make it a point of emphasis to instruct their players to always pick the ball up whenever and/or wherever it's dropped on the ground. You never know when there may be a review.

They need to change the rule to say: Any dumbass who drops the ball before crossing the goal line will cost his team the possession.

Seen way too many of these plays recently. Can't comprehend how this happens.

TM7 did it v. UGA in SECCG and refs never saw it.
