2019 was glorious, Ree.

But our concern is whether that was proof that O can develop a sustainable, championship-level program, or whether 2019 was a lightning-in-a-bottle, due to Burrow and Brady, both of whom are gone.

Remember, Gene Chizik won a NC too, with Cam and Gus.

I think most of the fanbase’s issues with Coach O relate back to how his interim HC tag was removed. He went a respectable 6-2, but that loss to Florida was absolutely embarrassing. In addition, it felt like LSU settled for O when their other candidates didn’t pan out.

Then, the following season included nasty humiliating losses to Troy and Miss St before a bowl game defeat at the hands of the Fighting Irish that resembled that 2016 Florida debacle.

Coach O seemed to solidify his position in 2018 with the Fiesta Bowl win over UCF, and then the miracle run in 2019. However, many credit the successes in those years to QB Joe Burrow, passing game coordinator Joe Brady, and DC Dave Aranda.

In 2020, many were wondering if Coach O could win without those 3, and the team looked like a complete dumpster fire for half the season. The team was obviously lacking in coaching. The defensive secondary and linebackers were consistently out of position resulting in giving up more big plays than any LSU team in history. The offense continuously sputtered in the red zone and 3rd down situations amid the complete absence of a running game.

All of those doubters that were silenced in 2019 were given every reason to find their voices in 2020. Coach O needs to right the ship in 2021 or else risk providing his doubters right, that his success is dictated by the success of his assistant coaches.

You can be concerned if you want. It's good for you after all. Drink lots of coffee, do drugs if you have or can borrow some and worry all the time.

I happen to know that if a program has top-level recruiting classes they have a better chance of staying good than if they don't.

I sleep very well at night.

THREE YEARS after taking over a 2-2 and unranked football team.

As they should. Coach O was responsible for every one of them

This is the bottom line. 2021 doesn’t need to be stellar in my opinion but it needs to be good.

The great thing is that the doubters and the supporters as well as the die hard haters and sycophants will all find out one way or another.

And very soon.

I’m never going to love the guy but so what. He doesn’t know me and I don’t know him and neither of us care a bit.

But regardless, if he wins I’m fine with him being there for as long as he wants.

but what's your definition of "wins?"

See, that's the key. Does 8-4 qualify? 9-3?

Thanks, Derek. What happened last year? Worst defense in school history. O lost his mind iver the success he had. What happens this year will help everyone see what kind of head coach he is.

I, for one, would miss Ree if he got banned. Once you know what your dealing with, he is the source of nearly unending amusement. Example: until last week, I was unaware that criticism of Coach O was a sure indication of socialist sympathies.

This username’s act has long ago gotten old and stale. Award it the title of Greatest Troll of All Time on Tigerdroppings and let it retire by banning it permanently.

8-4 no.
9-3 not if that’s all we get. That means losing 3 SEC games and winning the one decent out of conference game. Or losing the out of conference game and losing 2 SEC games.

9-3 in a “down” year with consistent 10-2 and an occasional 11-1 is my definition.

We aren’t Bama but we should not ever be a Mississippi team either.

I do not like it. I really wish that Ed would get his act together, but not sure that will happen. We will know a lot more after the UCLA game.

Their expectations were low because of what happened in 2017.

Nobody gave LSU a prayer that season.

Because the previous year they saw o take a team with nfl drafted qb ,rb,te, olinemen and a defense littered with future nfl players and lose to troy. The predictions were a consequence of our 2017 season.

yet he is an immense improvement from Miles.

4 losses
3 losses
0 losses
5 losses

Looks like the same type of record that got the last coach fired.

Stop measuring LSU against Bama under Saban and you’ll be a lot happier.

O is not Saban and no other college coach in history is Saban. So get over it.

I just want an intelligent coach such as we have in basketball. That's why Saban performs so well and it doesn't matter who the assistants are. HE has designed a system that works year in and year out no matter who the players and coaches are. It also doesn't hurt that he is a masterful recruiter who does better than O at what is supposed to be O's specialty.
