quote:We opened the season with a couple of pretty easy games, relative to where we expect this program to be. Sure, we lost lots to the draft (and then later to opt-outs). We started a new (but veteran) QB, who threw for well over 300 yds a game and got 3+ TDs a game, scoring 34, 41, and 41 pts... and went 1-2.quote:
We just came off a 5-5 season, and all those excuses about attrition are a bunch of shite.
Incorrect
All of that attrition combined with no spring practice definitely make a difference compared to a team that returned a decent amount of players. LSU was using true freshmen QB's, leading WR was a true freshmen, etc. Yeah, it makes a difference and if you don't think so you are full of shite
We returned a preseason All American at cornerback (supposed to be the best in college), a couple others (Flott for example) who saw time, and brought in the top corner (Ricks) in the freshman class. We lost some linebackers, but brought in an experienced transfer who was supposed to be solid.
We continuously hear about all the solid recruiting classes, there should be depth.
We proceeded to get absolutely raped on defense early on.
Mississippi State, with a new coach putting in a new system unfamiliar to their players, with a transfer QB who wasn't good enough to keep the starting job, put over 600 yds and 5 TDs on us. Lack of spring practice didn't bother them.
Watching the Vanderbilt game, the reason we won big was because their QB sucked. They had open guys all over the field, he just didn't hit them.
Mizzou's QB put over 400 yds and 4 TDs up on us.
In short, our new and inexperienced offense was doing just fine. Our defense, which was our hallmark since the turn of the century, was pure shite.
Now, consider that this was written about 1 year ago:
quote:We lost Vincent to the opt-out, and had a couple of injuries. But we had guys. Last season should not have happened.
Pass defense
Stingley was a freshman All-American after leading the SEC with 6 interceptions last season. He again should be one of the top defensive backs in the country, and Flott and Ricks add more elite talent to the cornerback position.
Throw in Stevens, Harris and Vincent and the secondary has the most experience and depth on the defense.
After sharing the SEC lead with 17 interceptions last season, DBU once again should have one of the best secondaries in the SEC if not the entire country.
And as for the opt-outs... what does that say about the coach, staff and locker room, that we seemed to lead the country in guys leaving? You say this
quote:The leading WR was Marshall, until he quit in midseason. Doesn't the coach have any influence on keeping his star players around?
leading WR was a true freshmen, etc.
I mean, this was a guy coming off an injury in 2019, with a point to prove. He had been a stud in 2020, then walks away in midseason.

I don't despise Ed, I just don't believe he's the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Why do so many of our fans just despise Ed O?
Have you watched any of the seasons from O’s tenure other than 2019?

Agreed. If you say one critical thing about him, they’re all over you. He can do no wrong according to them.

College football is going to change and change in a dramatic fashion from this point forward. Blaming coaches will be the new norm and everyone seems to miss the point. Sports at any level is mostly about the players, assembly of the team whether pee wee, junior high, high school, college or pro sports is everything.
O has done more than a good job recruiting, players leaving and opting out are happening across the nation and we are in a different era now.

On the other he says Ed has no responsibility for the 2020 debacle because we lost most of the starters, we had a new defensive coordinator and we had to deal with Covid
You liberal quacks are getting worse than your media outlets. Once you start lying, you just can't quit.
Show me where I have ever said anything about the 2020 season besides in this thread and about attrition.

You were played like the fool you are. Lighten up. Even with all of the lying and making shite up nothing you say comes close to making sense.
Coach O winning the national championship for LSU and the LSU fans has made your blood pressure sky-rocket. Very funny
