October 9, 1982

Willie Gault of Tennessee took a KO return to the house. The game ended up tied 24-24.

Even though I went to the 1980 Tulane game - cold, rainy and unmemorable - and the entire 1981 season - forgettable, this is the first play I can really remember seeing in person in TS.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Gault, heading north to south, went up the middle, broke it outside up the right (west) sideline at about the 30 and passed a diving Liffort Hobley (father of the infamous Ratphuc and not too slow himself) right in front of the LSU bench and my seats on the third row from the field level SW 35 yard line.

Legend has it that he was saying 'beep-beep' as he flew by. Dude could flat-out fly! Fastest player I had ever seen play football in person until Trindon came along.

LSU was playing Auburn and they won 12-6 (1995) and I was 8. My dad had gone to the game with his friends. I remember being really excited that I asked my dad for his buddy to mail me a cover of The Advocate. (We lived in the Midwest) Still have it in my room. I think it reads, "MAGICAL" and Jamie Howard is on a teammate's back.

The earliest game I remember in Tiger Stadium was 1996 against Tulane. I don't remember much about the game expect that I was amazed at how steep the stairs where. Not much of an attention span at 9.

I remember when the Grey Ghost timed the snap on the last play of the game and nailed the QB as soon as he touched it. The ball popped up in the air and that fat turd D-lineman Goodman plucked it out of the air and took off for the goal line. When he started to go down he pitched back to the Ghost who was trailing the play and he scored with no time left, Ole War Skule wins. Since they didn't have instant replay at the time, they re-enacted the play about 6 times for the fans who remained in the stadium.

Oct 25, l969. I was 7. LSU was #7 and Auburn was
#4. It was my first LSU game ever. And we scored on the first play on a halfback pass from Jimmy Gilbert to Andy Hamilton. LSU won 21-20.

It was the pass in the back of the endzone that I think Troy Twillie tipped or intercepted on Auburns last play the night that Dinardo brought back the magic. The student section went crazy and threw every last ounce of their drinks towards the field. It was raining bourbon and coke. I was a fan ever since.

Every one of these memories are some of the greatest memories in life for us.

Another one for me was the toss sweep play USC kept running with Hiesman Charles White. With the huge OL comming right at me all I could do was think, "How and the frick can we stop that?" but we did.

Not related but you guys check out the thread titled Odd/rare LSU memorabilia, on page 7 is some of my colection showing Billy Cannons game jersey that I have.

Joe Labruzzo returning a punt for a TD against Rice

Joe Labruzzo getting caught from behind by an Ole Miss DE, Stan Hindman, on the three yard line after a long punt return. Then we failed to score a TD and had to settle for a FG.

That game was especially depressing because I had had looked forward with great expectations to watching the game with several shipmates when I was in the Navy.

Todd Kinchen's exciting return for a TD vs Texas A&M.
