How much does Martin remind everyone of Scales? Atheletic as hell, can shoot, and do it on the inside...undisciplined and doesn't play defense he is capable of.

Scales was money when shooting. Under pressure and all. I remember a game against UK where he did a number on them with turn around shots one afer another. They tried to blind him and all by puttin their hands directly in his face and he still hit the shots! lol

Scales valued the basketball much more and never threw it into the stands, oh wait, that's Mickey...

Scales was a better shooter, but not as good as Martin on driving the ball.

Similar skills but I'd say The Astronaut was less prone to make head-scratcher plays(That is until his final collegiate game in the elite 8 against eventual national champion Louisville. Come to find out, Scales was playing footsies with an agent and trying to impress NBA scouts at the game. Dale found out and told him to hit the road at a time when most guys hung around for 4 years.)

Sid Crocker's introduction was epic

Aaaaaaaat Forrrward a 6' 9 inch junior from DaLlas , Texas DEEEEEEWAAAAAAAYNE THE ASTRONAAAAAAAAUGGHT SCAAAAAAAAALES.

The NCAA made schools tone down the introductions a few years later and they wee forced to drop the nicknames etc.

They're similar height, but not really built similar. Martin is a lot thicker. Scales only weighed about 200 lbs at 6-9.

We posted "The Astronaut is Jealous" earlier this afternoon. (In reference to the dunk)

Scales' dunks had a Dr J quality to them. It just seems like a dunk from 1978 was a lot more artistic. No disrespect to the between the legs dunk because the degree of difficulty is huge. Mickeys dunk the other night was pretty and reminded me of Scales and Al Green. Green used to cup the ball on his dunks. Scales work ethic was his downfall as well as his selfishness.

There are similarities. Both inconsistent and prone to taking games off. I think Scales was a bit more athletic and a better shooter. And both can be special when they are engaged and on.

Scales was much more consistent than Martin. Scales played with a chip on his shoulders, something Martin needs to do. If Martin comes to play with a chip on his shoulders EVERY game, then this LSU team can make noise.

Martin has an advantage on just about every opponent he face and yet he disappears in games. I can almost guarantee you that if Scales faced the same opponents Martin did this year he would have put them to rest. JMO.

I have a different recollection of that than you. I can remember the Astronaut moniker covered more than his jumping ability. he was a bit flight and he took more than a game or two off when he was here.

But when he was on....man that SEC Tourney final against Kentucky he was on fire and an early season loss at No. 1 DePaul that same year he was en fuego as well.

TigerUgly-I agree with you somewhat, but IMO Scales was more consistent than Martin is. The difference is Scales could AFFORD to take games off because of the talent around him, MARTIN should recognize that he CANNOT afford to take games off. Put Scales on this LSU team and he dominates practically every game.

Put Martin on that team with Macklin and that crew and I don't think Martin is as big a factor.
