It’s our identity. It’s fricking pathetic

You have projected 2nd-3rd founders routinely coming back to play at bama

LSU can’t even keep projected UDFAs

The same people praising and cheering him will be melting like MFers when Bama blows our lines up AGAIN. They’ll be screaming for O to be fired and simply won’t understand why we can’t compete

All of this is spot-on.

For a guy that probably has 2-3 years at best in the NFL according to past history what does another year of wear and tear on the body do for him?

A great chance to add a zero to his salary? And he still can live the practice squad life with a degree after next year of it comes down to that.

Not hating on the guy at all, and I hope he tears it up. But a dumb decision nonetheless.

I don’t think it’s a great decision, however his knees are horrible and he needs to get whatever money he can before they damn near disintegrate. Still think not playing in the bowl is weak.

A lot of those Bama guys play sparingly the first couple of years. We need our guys out there earlier.

I realize the ed Alexander thread is probably not the best spot to bring this up

Meanwhile Bama and Clemson get top rated D-linemen to return for their senior years. This is not a smart decision by Alexander.

Sounds like he is getting out before those top rated players go pro. And as some have said he's got knee issues and another year isn't going to help his knees. Who knows, one more year might show the pros that his knees won't last so get out now, maybe get some great doctors looking after his knees and have himself a career.

Well obviously they pay their players better than we do therefore they don't need to rush off to the pros.

If his knee is so bad you’d think getting a degree would be even more important

If he gets a sniff by the pros or just makes a practice squad he'll make enough money to finish his degree.

This thread is inappropriate, why bash players.

I wish he would have given it one last go with the bowl game, but maybe he didn't want to put another 3 weeks of practice wear and tear on the knees.

If he's that worried about his knee, wouldn't it be fair to say he may need to be thinking about a plan B for life without football? Seriously, if you aren't going to be drafted and you have serious health concerns going forward, football very likely isn't going to be what provides for your family.

He can pay for that with student loans worst case that he doesn’t make the nfl.

let's say he gets cut in August. He just pissed away two years of college for 60 grand.

NFL won’t risk drafting him, but they absolutely will risk a practice squad spot. It’s only 125k for them. Nothing for them, but for Ed that’s great money.

125k for one year and no college degree to show for it is a terrible deal for him.

125K IF, he stays healthy. The No degree, will definitely make things harder for him in the long-run. Can’t fault him, I know it’s easy for everyone here to do so. However, that practice squad money if huge for a lot of these guys. Many didn’t grow up with much, and making it to the NFL is a means to an end. The odds are stacked against him, no doubt.

I do hope he succeeds.

Lol is he serious. What is he projected, undrafted?

Hopefully this newfound opening will motivate another DT to commit

$6000/week with no long term guarantee and a very likely cut by August is not huge. It's an average middle class salary for one year. Let's say he goes undrafted with no signing bonus and he's on an NFL roster for 4 months and doesn't make a practice squad due his health concerns. That's about $96k, then his agent takes his cut. SO he takes one year of a decent salary and leaves college without a degree. I'm not saying he can't make it, but this is a terrible decision when you weigh the risks. If his kness aren't good enough to make it through a college season, what makes him think the NFL is a better decision? The more logical decision, given his health, is to use his football talent to ensure his degree. If his knees go out, he still has his education.

People always say this. How many players actually return and finish once they leave, less than 20%? Not to mention, he won't have a free ride, all expenses paid education if he does return. And if he has no money, he's forcing himself into debt that he would have otherwise avoided.

That doesn't mean he can't or necessarily needs to.

So now ya'll care about his potential student debt and not just mad because he isn't playing here anymore.
