Am I “misremembering” or did Bianco show a weaker arm last year at SS or 2B?

Coach Manieri, I didn't know you frequented the Rant.

Agree. Jay seems to have a very short leash with Merrifield and Dugas. Or, maybe it's just who he uses to look at other guys - it's not personal.

I may be wrong, it just seems he doesn’t trust merrifields bat as much as you would expect him to with how he’s hit.

I think what was trusted most about Merrifield, and his path to playing time was due to his defense more than his bat. He hasn't lived up to the defensive side.

Dugas having a short leash makes no sense, but I agree it does seem that way. With what he meant to this team's success last year, Dugas should be in the same category with Crews, Morgan, Berry, and Doughty.

You are spot on actually. I’ve seen every game and I like merrifield so your right it is odd how Johnson treats him different.

Why would the strength of his arm change at different positions?

I would've thought Doughty to 3rd and Drew to 2nd, but hope Drew plays well at 3rd. I have no issue with Merrifield at 3rd although I wouldn't mind seeing him at 2nd. Lots of options which is a good thing.

I don't think he has a great arm, I think it's good enough certainly at 2nd. It didn't seem like a liability at SS, which would indicate it's probably going to be fine at 3rd.

I was watching some games from last year in the regional and man, bianco is a straight dog in the field man, he was flying around in center field last year

Kids a jack of all trades, master of none. Good enough defensively to not kill you. Can play anywhere. Not slow, but not fast. Flashes power. Can get hot at the plate. His middle name is probably Utility.

Maybe this is the start of the maneuver. You get Drew in at 3B, he can't cut it, so you move Doughty there. Then you figure out what you're going to do at 2B - more options at 2B than 3B.

I didn’t say it did. But I remember him not having the strongest when he played 2B/SS last year.

If he’s got a weaker arm, it’d make more sense to play 2B rather than 3B.

I’d say he was more than just a decent centerfielder last year when he played it

it makes sense when you realize that our coach wasn't here last year. He's making decisions based on what he's seen since he's arrived. My guess would be that Dugas hasn't shown the consistency that the other guys you've mentioned have shown since Jay arrived until today.
