It is not hindsight. Swinging at the first pitch is dumb, always, unless it’s an absolute meatball which is rare. Do you think the pitch will throw one and only one hit able pitch? Plus the other team does do scouting too, so ya think they might be aware he’s a free swing and throw some junk? You get a pitch to hit, you swipe at it. It doesn’t matter if it’s the 1st pitch of the at bat or the 12th.
