I know I didn't have high expectations for our offense this year...mainly due to the QB position.
9-3 seemed more than reasonable.

If we can split the final two games . . .

Miles will conclude that the declining offensive production is mostly attributed to the inexperience at the all-important QB position in both 2008 and 2009. With Jefferson returning as a junior, there will be expectations that the offense will have much better success than the one this year that is now ranked 107th in total offense.

That's it in a nutshell, and I think there's truth to it. With the way Jefferson has progressed (see: Tulane, Auburn, Alabama), I'm pretty excited about his ability to lead a high-powered Tiger offense in 2010. Crowton should have even more to work with next season, especially at QB.

What can hope to see next year when these seniors are replaced by underclassmen? 115th?? 120th???
so, are you making the blanket statement that all seniors are better than underclassmen? Additionally, you are discounting that our QB will be one year older, as will most of our linemen.

With you being "chicken" and all, I figured all this "sky is falling" would be understandable to you...

I certainly don't get it.

If JJ doesn't improve a great deal next year,LSU will continue to see 8 men in the box. None of LSU's opponents this year have respected Jefferson's ability to pass.
Prior to this season the Rant raved about how great JJ would be this yr based on the win over GT.
JJ will need to learn to check into the appropriate play and greatly improve as a passer if LSU is to improve on offense.
Poor QB play has crippled the offense this year.

I believe 2010 will be a breakout season for the LSU offense.

I stand firmly behind Crowton, because I know first-hand that he is one of brightest OCs in the country.

That said, if for some reason the offense continues its struggles in 2010, it will be time for change on the offensive side of the ball despite my feelings of Crowton's abilities as a coach.

9-3 with a chance to win a 10th game would certainly exceed my expectations (I predicted 8-4 regular season), but it can't mask the fact that our offense played very poorly this year.

I don't understand why our O line is so bad when we have Miles who was an offensive lineman as our Head Coach? We should never have a bad o-line. It has really shut down our rushing game.

I agree that he likely won't be fired, but I think he will leave. I think he will see the writing on the wall and find another home.

All I know is that I will ignore all reports out of Spring and August practice next season that have glowing reports for the offense.

Nor can I, but I don't expect perfection. I do expect that the offense will play better with JJ back, and I expect a better offense next year.

I agree that Crowton's seat will be warm next year. This year's offense was disappointing. I just don't know if that is primarily attributable to Crowton.

Crowton's not going anywhere unless he gets a head coaching gig. I know this for a fact.

let me just throw this out there. this is jmo and i could be wrong. during the offseason les had high praise for this offensive line, however there was a huge conern regarding the defensive line. every practice vid i watched it seemed as if les was spening 90% of his time assisting with the defensive line (and i can understand that). is it possible this had an effect on the performance of the offensive line this year? if he spent that much time focsuing on the dline during the off season and preseason, how much focus did he put on the dline during practice? i trust les knows what he's doing when it comes to the oline, and i wonder if he didn't have that much imput with the development of the offensvie line becaue he thought they were going to be great and trusted coach stud could handle the situation. it's really hard for me to understand why a les miles coached team is having huge problems running the ball, and it's not like the pass protection has been great (jj's been sacked 24 times). if our oline would have "lived up to the hype" this offens could have been pretty damn good.

I have been somewhat disappointed in the O-line as well, but then started thinking.... how much of this is because everyone knew JJ was still young and the ability to pass at will (and def. run the option) is poor, coupled with the fact that we had Scott all set to pound the rock. So the pressure on the O-line was just paramount to keep up non-stop run blocking with so little threat to do anything else?

he might see the writing on the wall as being positive for his chances to turn the offense around...additionally, he might not be in the mood for moving to another city, unless it is for a Head Coaching position.

On paper, his stock has fallen, if you look strictly at LSU's offensive rankings the last three seasons...

Very likely correct, but I'd like to see a change unless the next 3 games show stellar offensive improvement.

I personally would like the staff to get rid of Yano(never understood this hire), Stud and Robinson. I'm less than impressed with our ST, though it definitely can be a lot worse. Our ST are better since he got here though, so if I had to pick two, Yano and Stud would be it.

Stud is a decent recruiter but our o-line has steadily declined since the second half of last year.

Yano...is...I have no idea about this hire. Not a good recruiter at all and he coaches the fricking TEs? Miles has NFL coaching experience here...I'm sure he could handle it.

The sacrifice would be to get rid of Stud, find a good OL replacement that can RECRUIT and possibly be RC. Get rid of Yano, Miles BBQ buddy and get a DEDICATED QB coach. Miles handles TEs.

I'd like to see Crowton gone but like you said I doubt it happens.

DJ and Porter both stay. Porter is one of the best recruiters in the country and is the main reason we close on so many big recruits, even when hes not directly involved. DJ is also a good recruiter and I think hes done a good job developing our WRs. Porter is a pretty good RB coach too, IMO. God help us if Porter leaves.

false. There are 120 division 1 teams, so the bottom 10% is nos. 109-120. We're clearly NOT in the bottom 10%.
