4 more....whop-T-f'en-do.

The Saints were disappointed in Ellis' play last year. They've said it.

The Chief's were disappointed in Dorsey's play last year.

They both played crappy.

Transition from 2009 to 2009 Kansas City Defense

Decent article on the subject. I don't like the writer's "opinion" that a 4-3 is punchless and a 3-4 is an attacking style of defense. 4-3 Tampa 2 defense is quite the attacking style in many ways and a base 3-4 in the Parcells model is pretty conservative.

The transition from one defense to the other won't be easy. Dorsey will have to make some adjustments but maybe they will just give him one-gap responsibility and let him attack. But that goes against a 3-4 scheme where the DL holds up the OL to protect the LBs.

More Info

quote:

Defense

LDE: Alfonso Boone Can be a monster at times, but endurance seems inconsistent. He’s a run-stopping DT playing out of position.

DT: Glenn Dorsey* High expectations as the fifth-overall pick. Was a two-gap defender at LSU, but Chiefs want him to get penetration in a three-technique.

DT: Ron Edwards Why is he starting?

RDE: Tamba Hali Ferocious run-defender though will focus more on pass-rushing now that he’s moved to the right side. Expect at least 10 sacks.

OLB: Derrick Johnson As fluid as they come. Isn’t a beast in traffic, but the more space you give him, the more dangerous he becomes.

MLB: Napoleon Harris Personifies an average LB. Can handle his business, but a majority of his tackles come several yards downfield.

OLB: Donnie Edwards Still effective at 35, though he’s lost more speed than he has left. Fortunately, he’s smarter than everyone else.

Note the part on the change of role for Dorsey.

Edit Note: Dorsey was 3 tech DT in college.

Last bit of info.

Kansas City 3-4 a Good Idea?

Based on this and other info, Dorsey will be traded as soon as KC can do it financially. I have to agree that Dorsey is not a good 3-4 NT nor DE. He needs to attack and most 3-4s use DLs to protect the LBs or wait and see which gap to hit.

KC Defense

Confirms KC is light on 3-4 ability.

And So on...

HOWEVER...

Some think Dorsey can fit the Richard Seymour mold. Seymour has been in the Pro Bowl as a 4-3 DT and a 3-4 DE. (Note, Seymour only had three sacks his first year with 10 starts and 13 games played. Seymour also had a much better set of teammates to start with also as a Super Bowl for NE that year).

I am not sure which 3-4 type KC will run. NE and Seymour run the more traditional 3-4 2 gap (called the "Fairbanks-Bullough" 3-4).

Before you judge a book by its cover, I would dig into a few of those sights.

The people who frequent where the KC Defense article come from are pretty damn smart, football wise.

And the date issue is a non-issue. It is recent enough and bring enough valid issues to the table.

Really, get out a bit more.

but most of the nite he was just being typical Tyson when I was wacthing it last nite, kneeling down before the start of the play and more reading and reacting like he did at LSU instead of rushing the QB all out. I wonder when he got that sack, musta been late in the game when I had fallen asleep.

Maybe the Saints can trade one of our overpaid DEs for Dorsey.

sometimes they were in the 3-4, not all the time, they interchanged a lot last nite from 4-3 to 3-4. but still he was doing the same thing he did at LSU, not rushing the OLineman, just tryin to read and jump up and bat down passes. one of those KC DLine coaches will have to break him out of those bad habits he developed at LSU, to bad Brick haley didn't work with him before he left.

What a dumbass. Bad habits? Bad habits in the pro is trying to rush the F'ing QB everydown, thus opening a hole a mile wide. That is what he's supposed to do as a SS DE, CONTROL his gaps. Some of you think your "madden" experience qualifies you as a fricking head coach.
