Nick saban lost to uab and ulm.
While at Michigan State he won more than 7 games just once.

I guess he is overrated and not worth the money.

I think he'd have been tremendous here

But I actually believe Texas is too much rebuild even for him

Hope so too

I would rather an x and o coach than another lovable Miles with limited coaching ability

But that's just me I guess

I mean they could have waited at least a week

They also could have paid O less than that

Wtf

Who's exactly bidding for him again??

I'm just worried O will continue to get excuses for losses like Miles and we will continue to settle for 4 losses

Another lovable figure head HC who isn't an x and o guy

People bring up Dabo but Clemson is in another conference and he didn't fail at his first crack at it. O did.. and o has yet to beat a legit team.

He benefitted from a very down sec schedule and a loaded LSU roster. Even Miles beats Florida.. ATM for a second straight year saves LSU coach. Sad stuff

At least miles had shown he can run a very successful program. Even before he got here he turned around Oklahoma state. They had 1 winning season in the 14 years prior to hiring miles and he had them winning 9 games and getting top 25 recruiting classes.

Amd clemson was not as big of a program as lsu. When dabo was hired clemson hadnt finished in the top 20 since 2000. Dabo also called the plays during his interim tenure.

That's been my argument these last couple weeks.
HATE the "flavor" of the month coach thing.
Also could not understand the obsession over Fisher.

I don't think Texas will have the kind of resurgence they think they are going to get under Herman, not saying he is not a good coach, just don't think he's as GOOD as he is being put out to be.

I wasn't super high on Herman. He hasn't got a track record actually running a program.

But that was when I figured that there were at least several options that DID have that on their resume.

Then, we hired a guy with not only no track record running a program but A BAD track record doing so.

A guy that not a single school of significance would have hired if we didn't.

We may get lucky and it turn out well, but, it's a pretty weak start

And Nick Saban's teams lose to UAB and ULM. Unqualified.

I'm not sure I agree that being a career DL coach disqualifies you as a HC. If CEO can surround himself with talented coordinators and position coaches and stay out of their way, I think that is a good formula for success. We just had many years of someone who didn't trust his coordinators and his teams consistently under achieved.

BTW, Alabama promoted Mike Dubose, their DL coach, to HC in the 1990's. Although he was a train wreck for other reasons, he won an SEC championship while on probation from violations during the stallings era.

The problem is recruiting would be set back exponentially, and that is where the problem would be with waiting 3 months, it would take at least a year to recover from that.

Many of you overestimate the requirements of a head coach, as if he has to be the best football mind on earth. He just has to manage the program. Do you think Bear Bryant was hands-on as a coach for all of those years? He got good people to coach his team. He could get good players to go to Alabama. As long as O does what he says he will do (hire the best staff, recruit well) LSU will be fine. Read what the top recruits are saying. And stop whining like a bunch of pussies.

What hostage? LSU could have still gotten O a freaking month from now. There was absolutely no reason to rush this hire

Recruiting matters. One month was going to be a distraction. Besides, the longer we went without signing a head coach, the worse it looks from the outside. On another note...Nobody available did much to impress IMHO. So I guess my question to you is- who were we waiting for? In short, every name you mention but 4 I can blow up for major failures THIS season.

Nah, O won't get the same benefit of the doubt. Don't forget Miles won a Natty in his first three years.

OTOH, O's teams looked a frickload better than Miles teams did the last several years, set offensive records with Fournette hurt. He lost to the east and west division champs, it's not like he didn't have a high scoring team.
