FWIW, I Think it's absolutely ludicrous that the Giants won the Super Bowl a couple years ago. #1 they didn't even win their own division and #2 the Patriots had ALREADY beaten the Giants.
So in playoff sports a team less than #1 seed is a fluke champion if they win? LSU baseball has never been the # 1 seed or "best team" in the years they won.....LSU fb was underdog both BCS games.

playoff proponents like ONE HUGE GAME, or more precisely 5-10 HUGE GAMES ... playoff critics like myself prefer 100 SEMI-HUGE GAMES.
That is pure speculation that the season would lose importance. If 16 teams are vying for playoff sports it could be argued that there would be many more "significant" games as opposed to now when in most cases you lose your out.
Also the main arguement is always that cfb has the best regular season of all sports. While they may be the case they also have the worst post season in all sports. I would rather a more meaningful post season than games in september (which I still don't think will lose any importance)

The BCS is a total Sham and ESPN has figured out they make more money with the chaos that surrounds it. Until we as fans band together and demand a play off we are stuck with this media circus deciding who is the MNC of CF. It sucks!
Yeah, we should go back to the way it was. This way, Oregon would be playing wisconsin for the NC this year. But hey, in the old days, there have been many times the #1 team went on to play a 2 or 3 loss team, or more, in their bowl game, and won the NC. Is the BCS perfect? No. Is the BCS a hell of a lot better than what we had. Absolutely.
Don't forget, the SEC has won all these titles BECAUSE of the BCS, not in spite of it. If it were not for the BCS, Floirda and LSU would not have played for the NC in 2006 and 2007.....and florida probably would not have in 2008 either. An undefeated auburn would not this year either unless oregon loses....so it is a hell of a lot better than what it was.

A playoff doesn't happen unless the universities play less games. That would mean less revenues for the schools and that won't happen.
That said - what if the non aq conferences were given the opportunity to become an aq conference based on head to head oOC record? There's no reason that the big east should have the bcs status over the WAC or mwc

There is no way the Big East would get demoted or lose its BCS status.

But wouldn't the BCS supporters say that this would diminish the regular season????
The way to minimize the impact on the regular season is to give the highest ranked teams home field advantage.
Do NOT use the bowls as the payoff venues. It is not fair to the fans to have to do all that traveling.
I say no more than a 4 team playoff, #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3 with #1 and #2 having home field advantage. Then play the title game at a rotating neutral site. Let the bowls do anything they want as far as choosing their matchups outside of the top 4 teams.
Have the 2 playoff games 2 weeks after championship weekend, and the title game around it's traditional spot.
I know people will say... "but number 5 might have an argument" You have to cut it off somewhere if you have 800 teams, number 801 will bitch that they should have been in.

Scenario 1......
we have Boise play Auburn in the finals of an 8 team playoff.
Cam breaks his ankle first series and Boise wins by 3 in a 13-10 win.
Do you accept that Boise is a better team? IF you do you negate your argument that getting through the SEC matters.
A one game playoff does not indicate the better team any more than a September loss indicates the worst team.....what we have now is fine.
Hell, you people act as if the only reason to play the sport is the NC anyway. As if that is the only definition of a great season.
Sounds a lot like last years NCG doesn't it? McCoy goes down early, and Alabama wins a tight game against the backup QB. The same QB that has struggled all year.

SG I was being a smartass with that comment. I want a playoff!

a "playoff" usually means more than one game, so a weaker team (Boise,TCU) wouldn't play only one game to get a shot a the NC, they would need 3-4 huge wins to become NC. So, wouldn't neccessarily fall under fluke teams winning it when they would have to play a few of the best teams in College football

Contrary to popular belief, Playoffs haven't ruined the NFL regular season.
Just yesterday, you had huge playoff implications and/or huge interest:
- The Pats-Colts game is always classic, and it kept the Pats tied with NYJ in a super close Div race
- Philly takes the NFC East lead with a win over the Giants
- Saints defeat Seattle, an NFC West common opponent (of Atl & TB), while praying Atl and Tampa would concurrently lose because the NFC South title is a super close race
- San Diego over Denver made a statement they might still win their division, when most thought they were out
- Jax's win over Cleveland with the Colts loss puts them atop their division
- Green Bay over Minnesota & Chicago over Miami keeps the NFC North a super close race
- Because they are not mathematically eliminated yet, even a Dallas win over Detroit keeps Cowboy fans hopes/interest alive
- Oakland lost to Pitt which hurts OAK chasing KC, while PITT ties the Ravens divison-leading record
- The Ravens beat Carolina to stay in the division lead
- The Jets beat Houston late to maintain their league best record, and stayed mathematically ahead of the Pats in the division
- KC losing to Ariz makes the AFC West super tight
Sure, there are a couple of NFL games like Buffalo vs Cincy or Wash vs Tenn that means nothing, but in what way is that different from:
-Tenn vs Vandy
-Florida vs Appalachian St
-Penn St vs Indiana
-FSU vs Maryland
-ULCA vs Washington
-Virginia vs Boston College
-Illinois vs Northwestern
-Texas vs Florida Atlantic
-NC St vs UNC
-West Virginia vs Louisville
-Nemexico vs BYU
-San Jose St vs Hawaii
-Rutgers vs Cincy
-Army vs Notre Dame
-Ohio vs Temple
-Miami (OH) vs Akron
-Bowling Green vs Toledo
-Air Force vs UNLV
-Northern Illinois vs Ball St.
-Pittsburgh vs So Florida
-East Carolina vs Rice
-Duke vs Georgia Tech
-Colorado St vs Wyoming
-UTEP vs Tulsa
-Clemson vs Wake Forest
-Houston vs So Miss
How the frick has the BCS made these games exciting? Those games had no BCS title implictions, and virtually no interest, except for the teams involved.
Because of the BCS, there are a shitload more of uninteresting games (per ratio) in college each week than there are in the NFL each week.
This week, the NFL had 87% of their games that had divison/conference implications because they have a playoff system while CFB only had 21% of their games mean anything because of the BCS.
To make matters worse, a writer's opinion of whether you win pretty or not in CFB has power; a mind-boggling injustice that has no business determining a champion.
frick the BCS and frick the polls.
