If chad Jones is pitching that says a lot about the tigers pitching staff

I bet some of these guys feel foolish right now. Oh, wait. They're rantards. They know more than Manieri does - and he made a terrible decision.

Jones was recruited to be a pitcher for us. He throws 91-93 mph LH which is great. He didnt have the grades last year and didnt play. This year they wanted to wait til after football to let him get some work. He has been throwing bullpen and has looked great this week.

some statements wrong here

Jones was recruited as an OF (that's also what the scouts were looking at him as, and what he was drafted as), and also, he wasn't technically recruited by us, the FB team recruited him and he walked-on BB, just like JMitch did for FB I believe (BB, and walked-on FB), can't scholarship for two sports (that's why Mitch missed spring for FB this year and most of last year, and why Jones didn't)
Jones did have the grades last year, he didn't play because there was better talent then he, is PM going to put him in the OF now just because he is Chad Jones and is talented? no because JMitch, Schimpf, Dean and Mahtook are on it, that's one reason Leon can't get back in it, others are performing right now

either way, I look forward to seeing Jones pitch more

Damn strong report!

Since I know very little about baseball tactics/strategy, I was wondering if it would be feasible to play Chad in the outfield and move him to the mound periodically during games to pitch to left handers?

I know the routine for pitchers and position players is very different, but I also know that at least occasionally players switch from a position to the mound.

Probably not unless it's to the first batter of an inning. Jones would need to warm up on the bull pen mound some first. Kinda' hard to do that while playing in left field.

I know one of the Harris brothers did that a few years ago when his field position was third base. He at least got some throws in to warm up just during the infield "throw arounds." It's tough to do at the SEC level. Tulane had a SS who would switch to the mound some, too. He's playing pro ball now.

If anybody could pull it off, it would be CJ. He's such an athlete, it's freaky.

wrong, jared mitchell is not on a baseball scholarship. he's on a football scholarship just the same as chad jones. he was granted permission to skip football spring practice because of the fact that he has a very bright future in baseball and will, more than likely, go pro in baseball after the season.

It seems like Tulane had a lot of P/position players. Didnt Manzalla, Bogesevic, and Owings do both? And I cant remember the Rice players that did it but I remember them doing this

anyone thinks he would put serious efforts into his pitching during the offseason? 92mph for someone who hardly pitch, perhaps he can get it up to mid 90's with some work. he could groom into a pretty nasty LHP.

He's the one I was thinking about. As for Rice, all I can remember are those flame throwers they put against us in Wally's last weekend in a Tiger uniform.

Yes, ma'am. I made it a point to stay home for the rest of baseball season. I've even already gotten my SEC tournament tickets for Hoover!
