Mostly due to poor recruiting, but the 2016 class is pretty monster by comparison to what we've brought in (Valentine, Lawrence, Logan, Alexander, Roddy).

I'll ask it again. Who is LSU's last impact every down true freshman defensive lineman?

I'm gonna stop you right here. This is 100% unequivocally false.

It is a fact. He has the most starts of anyone on the team. Period.

Ok. But most are gonna take 'Top Starter' as best or most valuable...
I think Godchaux and Neal are more productive and valuable, but yes we lose alot of experience here

Valentine may be a perfectly good player. His best advantage is no one has seen him play. Just like everyone thought Gilmore (or Al Woods for that matter) was going to be amazing because he looks great getting off the bus. Potential is wonderful. Valentine had the same potential without losing Lacouture to a season ending injury. Also, Lac was going to play end according to his quotes on the radio yesterday. That's not Valentine's position at all.

The reason Valentine affects this is Valentine pushes Godchaux out to LaCouture's end spot which is wher eGodchaux should have been from the start, Neal occupying the other. It's not like the coaches WANTED godchuax to play NT, LaCouture couldn't really provide the quality reps they wanted there and Godchaux was the next best solution and is a big reason they went all out to get Valentine.

Maybe not popular opinion but I thought all summer if Valentine came in LaCouture would get bumped from starting and be a rotational player in multiple spots which is a great role for him IMO for a guy with the experience he had. Unfortunate we're missing that now

You should clarify what you mean by "top starter", considering you actually mean "most starts"

If we use that metric, LSU has lost a ton of "top starters", but not the best players, in the past.

Maybe you're not familiar with a NT and a 3-4 system, but they literally are in there to eat the center and as many blocks as possible to free up the linebackers to roam and make plays. He's a strong, 330 pound NT that will be asked to do just that.

I don't actually think you understand what we were trying to do with our NT. Godchaux was going to be a 1 gap penetrator at that position. Now, we almost certainly have to go the way of a zero gap plugger at that spot.

We've been practicing for months now with Godchsux as the starter there in our main set, playing a different role from what we will have to do now. I'm sure Aranda has put them through reps with a big nose, but the plan was to have Godchsux there to play disrupter, not space eater.

hard work doesn't equal talent. LaCouture is underwhelming as a playmaker. He was basically in there to eat space, even in a 4-3. Sorry that's hard for you to accept.

So wait, your going to tell me about the importance of a space eater then down play it in the next sentence? Don't talk down to me when you don't know what the frick you're saying

I did. You should clarify that your comment is unequivocally false. In terms of production, no one on the line has more career tackles than Lacouture. Thems the facts. You might like the talent of others better, but he's got the greatest quantity of anyone on that line.

On the tiger rant, your guy with the most starts on the defensive line by a lot is a talentless hack whose backups are just as good as he is.

Did I say that he a talentless hack? No. I said he is replaceable, and the sky is not falling like others have said. Quit trying to put words in someone's mouth because you don't have a legit rebuttal to what they say.

He's a solid rotational DT (what I said), but losing him will not derail our season.

I said 9-3/8-4 from the jump, so it doesn't change my prediction

Do you move Godchaux to DE?

It shakes up the whole line.

Sounds like this was the plan long before CL got hurt... So I dont think losing CL affects our 'plan' so to speak, just our depth

Yeah, I've had a real tough time responding to how a guy who doesn't play the same position isn't an answer and how LSU hasn't had an impact every down true freshman on the line since Booger was here.

It does not work that way at LSU or some other programs.

Next man up. Expectations that the team has for themselves won't "change" because of this so it doesn't change mine.

A big loss from a veteran standpoint but I believe we have enough depth to replace him.

S/S said awhile back Godchaux and CL had swapped positions.

Also, Valentine was quoted in article form Bartow that he was coming to help CL in the middle so Godchaux could play natural position.

So that definetly tells me CL was already slotted in the middle, Godchaux on the end.... I know they started out opposite, but they swapped awhile back
