I’ll never forget Blanton put back to beat Georgetown in the dome in front of 60k fans.

What year was that?

I remember ‘86 ? Ricky Blanton doing the “Blanton” hand wave. Those were fun times. Meeting Dale and the gang getting off the charter at Baton Rouge Airport. It was nighttime and hundreds flooded the area before security became a present day issue.

That was the Kentucky game in the Elite 8.

That season was great but could have been better. If Nikita Wilson didn’t have his head up his arse in the fall we would have been national champs.

Loved the guy but in my opinion, just under the retirement status.

As good as he was, I would not put him in that category.

O’Neal and Jackson are the only players that deserve it since PP. The people that are asking dumbarse questions about Blanton etc..did you ever watch CJ play? He was absolute fire!

It fricking should be.

The kid was a Sophomore when we got to the 1986 Final Four and was a rebounding monster. That year, in those five games, he averaged 4.4 Offensive Rebounds per game including grabbing 6 two different times. That is A LOT of second chance opportunities and is a stat that always goes unnoticed.

Then he misses an entire year before coming back in 1987-88 and exploding for 17 PPG on 51% FG Pct, 8.8 RPG, 3.6 APG, 1.1 SPG. Since 1991, only 5 Forwards have ever put up those kind of numbers (Ben Simmons is one of them).

For his final year, he added the ability to shoot from outside and improved again and averaged: 20.3 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1.5 SPG (51.8% FG Pct, 40.4% 3PT Pct)

Don't forget he also nailed two of the biggest Game winning shots of the 1988-89 season, the first was against #2 Georgetown and the other was against #18 UNLV

This dude earned it and I hope it happens for him.

No offense but the Q almost smacks of racism, and Im a white dude!

Loved R. B. as much as the rest and the win against K. in Atlanta for the final four trip was special. But I can rattle off so many other guys who were superior BB players: I’d put Vernell up there ahead of R. B. , porn star or not!

Ethan Martin; Howard Carter; Nakita Wilson; Dewayne Scales; Rudy; Stromile; Big Baby. Not really sure why even the thought.

Ricky Blanton was a selfless player and seemed to really care about LSU Men’s Basketball. He had a good career. OP obviously admires him.

Retire his jersey to the PMAC rafters? No way.

Those rafters should be reserved for very special male and female basketball players and coaches, very few. The teams with players mentioned have banners.

I got one to add, Sparky Wade!! He was point guard on our ONLY National Championship team in 1935?? Ricky Blanton’s number doesn’t not belong up there and neither does Wat Misaka’s!!
