If the first read is a DE or DT it’s not an RPO it’s a read option.

I know it doesn't fit textbook definition, but the QB makes postsnap read and yet still hasn't yet committed to run or pass until reading a linebacker.

If you add another element to it it’s triple option even if the throw is upfield. It’s the “modern” triple option

The designed triple option pass is old as the hills and keys nothing.

I think letting them fire off the line and go downhill would benefit the run game.

Solid breakdown. I agree the OL looks like they’re overthinking way too much right now. Inside zone with some play action off it feels like the safer bet until they get more comfortable. Counters and powers would help keep defenses honest too, because right now it feels like SEC linebackers are just teeing off when they see us hesitate.

It's not a real Run Pass Option if we never pass out of those plays and only one running option is utilized.

What makes you think we never pass out of RPOs?

That’s because our football illiterate fans repeatedly show that they don’t know wtf an RPO actually is. It’s impossible to talk about RPOs without devolving to this discussion, because half of the people reading it have no idea what you’re talking about.

Totally agree with this, but at what point do you not put Thompson and mubenga on notice? Hold them to a higher standard. This is where Brad Davis, Sloan and Kelly come into play, the level of expectation has to be way higher than it is now and it seems like Davis is to easy on them. It’s a hustle and mindset thing, get your arse moving and maul somebody.

Nah. Sloan finally figured out what an RPO is. He’s gonna run it.
