Does LSU have a student assistance fund to buy player draft insurance like clemson has?

Well for starters it’s a small price to pay for the risk to millions they’re putting out on the field every week. It’s one thing to argue paying them while they’re here, but these policies at least give the good ones some security while they’re playing for free (or at a steep discount for you scholarship people)

Because it's legal and LSU and all big time D-1 schools utilize the benefit. Settle down.

Of course we do. Plenty of players have been covered over the years

Is not and it should be common practice since some of these guys are risking millions coming back to play. They deserve this, times a million.

I think every big time program has future earnings insurance for their players now. Georgia has had it for 10 years or more.

I remember reading that Archie Manning had an insurance policy like this at Ole Miss way back in the early 70s.. while it was more unusual then, it’s been standard practice for big name players who are projected to go high in the draft since the 1980s.

How is that not an NCAA requirement?

Every school has this right and ability. It isn't a fund. It is just a matter of having a player who needs this and the TAF purchasing a policy for them. Not that big of a deal.

exactly, and yes we do it. Quietly, but it gets mentioned on the recruiting trail.

I like the idea of 'fanbase support' and more publicly doing it. As long as you keep alumni/boosters out of the funding you're fine with the appropriate disclaimers. Technically students are not boosters as long as enrolled if I'm remembering my finer points correctly.

Much of the NCAA rules, especially improper benefits, are geared specifically and target the idea that a student-athlete should not get benefits beyond the regular student. Therefore the 'student' is the baseline against improper benefits are measured, and in this scenario the benefit comes from them... both the measuring stick and the 'body protected'. It's all good.
