The point is moot, since LSU will very likely finish either 15th or 16th this season (Tigers are currently tied with SC for last place) and will not qualify for NIT

So they can lose by 30 at home to a mid major! No thanks. End it now!

This statement is a non-sequitur. We're talking about this year and whether or not we get an NIT bid. "Another year" is a whole nother boll of wax.

Can they opt out of SEC tournament?
Posted on 3/1/26 at 6:08 am to nicholastiger
The sec sucks wieners this year so it’s not getting 14 like last year.

Argument can be made for SEC tournament to not take all 16 teams. Perhaps limit to top 12 and leave bottom four at home.

I went to the NIT game against North Texas a few years ago. I remember there were about 1,000 people in the PMAC about 5 minutes before tip. It was sad.
The Tigers then proceeded to get blown off the court by a squad they had handled fairly easily earlier in the season.

The NIT bid is based on NET rankings. The top 2 (NET) teams that don’t make the NCAA Tournament get automatic invites.
LSU was in the (likely) top two…until Auburn lost last night.

The SEC is still the highest ranked conference according to NET. I don't know what you're watching.
LSU is 14, 15, or 16 in the SEC (wherever you want to put us), and we still have a 70 NET ranking

This team is not qualifying for the NIT.

Does lsu accept the nit invite this year?

Auburn will put the kighbosh on any LSU postseason aspiratons with what I believe will be a big Auburn victory at Beard-Eaves late Tuesday night (the game starts 9 pm!) Auburn gets back firmly into the NCAA mix, and what I believe will be a big upset by South Carolina at home vs Tennessee that night will firmly entrench the Tigers into the SEC cellar.

It'll be Oklahoma and Miss. State in the NIT if Auburn makes the NCAA, and Oklahoma and Auburn NIT if they don't. LSU prolly won't make a tourney unless they pay to play the CBI (or is it CIT?) route.

Mississippi State is ranked 35 spots lower than LSU in the NET rankings. Ole Miss is ahead of MSU.
Conference standings mean NOTHING when it comes to the postseason tournaments (NCAA and NIT)

Why is LSU still comparatively high (58 Kenpom, 70 NET), when they have consistently played worse than any other team in the league?

Why embarrass ourselves.

The sparse, even sometimes hostile home crowds are sort of a negative energy for the team. That's why lately the team has actually performed better on the road
