He can just by hitting above .200.

So no, he won’t.

Hope he proves us wrong though.

By entering the transfer portal? Unfortunately I doubt it.

I had some thoughts on this, but @americanlsufan pretty much summed it up.

Not going to lie, and I know it might be due to injury right now (Arnold), that Hal is once again in our starting lineup in his 3rd straight season.

Mind boggling. There's almost no amount of defense that can make up for the hole he is in the lineup if it's anything like the last 2 years. Unless everyone else literally cant field SS at all, we have to be to find someone else if Hughes still cant hit whatsoever. Under .300 slugging is completely unacceptable at a school our caliber. The last guy who did that was Ty Ross and that only happened 1 year he started during dead bat and dead ball era at that.

Look at Casey Martin at Arkansas, awful shortstop, but big time hitter (or a feast/famine hitter) and more than makes up for his errors IMO.

1st post, my observation the last few years is this type of kid, talent wise, has been recruited by pm. Many recruits the last 2 to 3 years have been very weak hitting wise. In the SEC, lsu will have it's toughest year under Paul. Pitching will be good...who knows we may win a bunch of 3-2 , 2-1 games...

LSU hasn't had a real hitting coach the last few seasons so hopefully this will help.

1 post too many. Go look at the roster and tell me how weak we are at the plate.

Speaking of Hal Hughes, yesterday when Mo Hampton took off for second base on a straight steal attempt after getting his first hit of the Spring scrimmages, Hughes hustled to the bag to cover second.

Then it hit him who was coming at him on the steal attempt and for a split second I think I saw a look on Hughes' face which said his life flashed before his eyes.

Hampton was safe.

Then he stole third, too.

I’d be shocked if he hits above the Mendoza line. The bar is low.

Hampton almost overslid second base and had to grab the bag to keep from going past it. Hughes tumbled down on top of Hampton and it took a few seconds for them to become disengaged.

Hughes walked slowly back towards his SS position while checking all of his moving parts.
