This is not a knock on him at all. I thought he actually looked great at the plate the whole series. Had great at bats, never got fooled, had great swings. But he was just an inch or 2 off every one it seemed. He missed so many in his wheelhouse. Not missed completely, but just didn't square up. It seemed like every time they'd throw him something good, he loaded up, put a great swing on it, had me hollering "GET THE frick OUTTA HERE!!," only to foul it off or hit it in play somewhere other than the 450 ft bomb his swing would have indicated.

He was just so close so many times. I wonder if it's a vision problem. Maybe he just didn't pick it up well at TD Ameritrade. Backdrop may not have suited his eye. Oh well, great season.

That's how the game of baseball is. Sometimes you can't miss, sometimes you feel like you can't make solid contact. Deichmann roped a few during the CWS though so I'm not gonna say he has a vision problem.

I wonder if he was pressing too hard. Since the series against State where he was intentionally walked 500 times, he only had one? two? homers? I know he hated getting pitched around that much. When teams started pitching to him again he wasn't nearly as patient.

It looked to me like his timing was off a lot of the time. That's what good pitching can do, especially if you aren't seeing it the best at the time.

Deichmann had the lowest batting average of any regular starter for the entirety of the NCAA tournament. He batted .200 in the CWS and .200 in all 12 NCAA tournament games combined. His OBP was second lowest on the team behind Duplantis in the tournament as a whole.

I don't think vision was problem, but he was fouling off wayyy too many hitable pitches.
