I hope so. I worry how BJ Ouljilri, Ali Gaye and Andre Anthony fit in a 3-3-5
BJ would be in a Chaisson type postion. Everybody talked about Aranda as a 3-4 guy but he was really a 3-3-5 guy. Rarely was LSU in a true 3-4 look when Aranda was here. Ali Gaye would play a the WDE position. Anthony would be in the same position as BJ.

3 down linemen have a little diff responsibility than 4 a lot of times.
And usually you want them to be bigger than a standard 4-3 DE.

My guess is he will play a lot of 4-2-5 but be pretty flexibile. Versus the MooStates of the world you will definitely see heavy 335

I don’t see how you can play a true 3-4 or 4-3 consistently anymore.
You live with at least a 5 man secondary

I think we make too much of base formations and make wrong assumptions based on a number.
A 3-3-5 on paper typically is a 4-2-5 in actuality. Chris Ash, the Texas DC this past season, ran what was sometimes referred to as a 3-3-5, but Joseoh Ossai as a jack LB actually lined up on the line as a stand up DE, creating a 4-2-5.
The bigger question is whether you run a 1-gap or 2-gap scheme, as you're asking different things of your linemen and LBs from one to the other.

You still gonna have 4 guys on the LOS either way. You gonna generally have a shade and 3 or 4i and two 5 techniques. Whether one of them is standing up or has his hand in the ground doesn't mean a whole lot.

4-2-5 and 3-3-5 are basically the same thing.
This is correct especially as it relates to coverages. Obviously run fits will be different based on the number of down linemen

Not quite
A 4-2-5 and a 3-3-5 are almost exactly the same thing. In the 4-2-5 both end guys on the LOS have hands on the ground. In the 3-3-5 only 1 does. Alignment is pretty much identical in the base defenses.

Not in a true 3-3-5. In a 3-4 you almost have 5 on the line at some points
But you gotta have the Lb talent in 3-4. Idk if we have that right now. We have the linemen for a good 4-man line tho.

He ran 4-3 and 3-3-5 at Cincinnati

Can Ika tranfer back in? or did he find a landing spot?

Down linemen isn't as important as where the guys on the LOS are. Gaps should be the same if 4 guys are on the LOS like most defenses start with. Your Mike is gonna be a strong A player in both defenses. You strong side tackle is gonna be a strong B gap player in both defenses. Your nose or weak tackle is gonna be a weak A player in both defenses. And so on and so forth.

I just don't see any way that he could run that with our personnel next year. DL is probably our best and deepest unit, and LB is probably our worst and thinnest unit.
Unless one person plays a defensive end hybrid linebacker role. Maybe someone like Andre Anthony

Aranda is a 3-3-5 guy. Chaisson lined up on the LOS almost every play. 3 man front teams generally still have 4 guys on LOS in their base defense. Teams get into Tite fronts and some of that may change. The Tite front is somewhat new to college football and pretty much every team does it these days to combat spread teams.

BJ is a stand up rusher and Maason is the other tackle.
Posted on 1/8/21 at 1:23 pm to Solo Cam
BJ is a stand up rusher/coverage, Ali other side, and Maason is there with Roy w/AA in for stunts, etc. Tough to see Ali and AA on the field together. The safeties are all over the place! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

There's some talent right there...

He ran a 3-3-5 because that’s what his personnel at cinci dictated. From what I heard anyways. He will put 4 hands in the dirt here for the most part with what we have I would think.

He will run a 4 man front with the talent we have.
