No one honestly thinks Kelly is on the hot seat. A 9-3 or 8-4 season would be a disappointment and he would be trending in the wrong direction. We should be in NY6 this year

For sure it did matter and might be the biggest win in BK's career, but it was an obvious example that I didn't feel like I needed to specifically call out

You didn't call it out because it goes against what you were trying to accomplish with this thread.

It still was a big game with playoff implications so it mattered a ton. We were #5 and about to play undefeated defending national champion #1 Georgia on the road for an SEC title. When LSU played in Atlanta last season it was supposed to be a de facto CFP quarterfinal game for us yet that A&M loss put us out of contention.

BK does not have any admin pressure on him from LSUAD, none at all. He has several years to set up his program, at least 4. After that, LSUAD can judge whether BK will get us to the promised land or not.

When you give an experienced HC a huge contract, you give him time to get things like he wants them.

The Auburn game was huge. Our season hung on it. Every SEC game left is huge.

Obviously we need to win out to make Atlanta and hope for an Ole Miss loss. But if I had to choose between losing to bama and either Florida or aggie, I'd choose Bama. Bama is going to get what it gets in recruiting. We need to keep Florida and aggie down.

The gators are recruiting well and have had some signs of improvement. We need to end that by wrecking them in BR.

Aggie is reeling right now and we can't let them off the hook and give them back to back wins and their first win in Tiger Stadium since joining the SEC.

BK could go 8 -4 for the next 5 - 6 seasons and LSU will not do anything. There is NO $ to even consider buying him out.

Hope he keeps us in the playoffs starting next year. The goal is no longer win it all but to just make the playoffs.

If we lose, his seat gets very warm In fact, not sure he survives another year if we don’t win the bama game

The hook was really shiny. The championship roster part was the giveaway

Need it for what? To keep his job? No. To get to a NY6 bowl or SEC championship. Yes. BK will get another year or 2 to show consistency. After that his seat will get warm. Not yet. Now if we lose 2 of the last 3 there might be some rumblings but again he is building for the long haul and gets a couple of years to figure out both his roster and his staff.

Exactly

"Need" is relative. He doesn't "need" to beat Alabama to keep his job at LSU. Does he "need" it to bolster his achievements/success as a HC? That's subjective. Does he "need" it for LSU to win the west? Very likely.

Kelly outperformed expectations last season. This year, he is currently teetering on the edge of underperforming. Especially when one sees this isn't necessarily the strongest SEC (overall) in the last 10 years or so and LSU offense has been so good that anything short of one of having one of the worst defenses in all of college football would be enough to be a serious championship contender.

On the other side of that coin, the TAMU game last year mattered.

It only mattered because we beat Bama. With 2 losses, every game 100% matters now.

He doesn't "need" it this year - he checked that box last year, and whether he "needs" it in the future really depends on how they divvy the SEC schedule in the post-realignment world, and how important that game is. If it remains "the game" he has to win to get to the SECCG and into the playoffs (as it is now), then yeah, he can't afford to go more than a couple of years without winning it.

What is the logic behind this post? Seriously.

Yes, we/he/they/it/ze/zir always need the Bama win.

Second to the A&M win now unfortunately, then maybe Florida in a hard third. Cmon on dood.

Yeah, if he wants to win the SEC and National Championship. Otherwise its just another SEC game.
We want to win them all. I believe we can if Daniels stays healthy.

I mean 9-3 would mean we are in a bad bowl game

It definitely shouldn't though. We played in the Fiesta Bowl in 2018 at 9-3 and Auburn played in the Sugar Bowl in 2016 at 8-4.

Yes he needs it. Any LSU has to at least compete against Alabama. If he doesn’t, then Saban will get most of the talent in LA.

LSU needs the Bama win. Doesn't matter who is coaching LSU.
