I am welcome to keeping Javi on as an administrator and recruiter.

Is that a thing?

The NCAA shafts baseball in numerous ways... and I knew about this one too. But there are ways around it.

I'm a huge Dunn fanboy. I don't know who we could ever get that would be better. That man is a machine and knows how to challenge and teach this guys from day one.

I value Alan Dunn more than probably any other viable college baseball pitching coach option out there.

Nothing wrong with that opinion at all.
Is it based on close observation of pitching coaches around the country, or Dunn's results at LSU?

Only myself. So no... I said I don't know!

Mostly. Which is tough to argue with. I'm looking at what he's done with guys who aren't highly touted, not just the sure-things.

So you're an expert on how college coaching staffs are made up now?

My #1 example of Javi medocrity will always be 2011, which saw a lineup of: Mahtook, Rhymes, Jones, Katz, Hanover, Edwards, Watkins, Nola, and Ross.

That is one of the more talented LSU lineups of all time, IMO. And yet the pitching took the fall that year, because Gausman was young and McCune was more of a crafty Sunday guy than someone you want pitching Fridays.

But, look at the SEC play box scores that year:
https://www.lsusports.net/fls/5200/assets/docs/bb/11stats/teamstat.htm?DB_OEM_ID=5200 and notice how many times LSU scored little to no runs in SEC play while sending a team full of great hitters to the plate. Sure, there were some great double digit results, but how did that lineup get shut down by so many #2, #3, and #4 SEC pitchers? (And worse?) Javi gets good overall stats from his guys, and he gets great consistency against poor pitching, but he gets mediocre results against decent to good pitching. LSU can do better than mediocre.

Here's hoping that he keeps the production of last week going throughout the post season though!

Yeah, because I can closely observe assistant coaches all over the wide landscape of college baseball.

As most people who follow LSU baseball closely, thus also follow SEC baseball closely just as a result. From what I've seen, the only pitching coach with the kind of impact on their teams I have noticed close to Alan Dunn have been Butch Thompson at Miss St and Dave Jorn at Arkansas.

Without Dunn, I have very little doubt this team would be a middle of the pack SEC squad getting ready for a 2/3 matchup this weekend.

He has gotten everything out of Nola. I know the kid is immensely talented, but I don't think he would be as successful a pitcher without Alan Dunn. The same could be said for probably dozen plus other pitchers that have come through LSU since he's arrived. He calls masterful games.

I absolutely agree. I think he's great, and most of my opinion is based on what he has done here.

So wouldn't that eliminate the "there are better coaches than ____, so ____ should be fired" argument?

You mean he can't be a director of operations (admin) and recruiter?

Depends on what you mean by "recruiter".

What do the rules say about these guys? You should turn them in. I see their titles, but I know their roles on the staff. They are not the same.
