He seems too valuable a pitcher to continue to throw against directional schools on wednesday, and while having a 4th starter is nice, is he better served pitching 7 innings or throwing 4 against SEC Hitters?

even if Holeman, Jump and Hurd lockdown F-Sun he’s looks like a top 5-6 arm on the team.

He will certainly be useful in the postseason

definitely a luxury to have
I would leave him in the midweek starting role for now to make sure he gets is work in and as you go through sec play you can figure out his role going forward.

It’s a good point, but considering he’s coming back from injury, probably better to keep him on a schedule early on.

Hurd hasn’t proven he deserves a weekend starter at this point tbh. He might be relegated to reliever soon

If he has another stellar performance against Southeastern, I'd have him in the pen by the time SEC play begins.

Hoping to see Cam Johnson get a 2-3 inning midweek start down the line. Give him a no pressure situation to corral his elite stuff.

Hurd pitched great this weekend and has the most MLB-ready stuff on the team. He's a great Sunday starter.

I had the same
thought.

would rather see some guys get a few more inning midweek and i’d rather see Anderson than Primeaux coming out the pen in big moments.

there are definitely guys I

i believe 100% he stays there. he fills in for an injury to one of the top 3 starters. or, later in the season, when thursdays or tournaments start on a wednesday....something like that is where he will fit in.

the other responses are dead on. Cam Primeaux (sp?) will get innings and hopefully round into available trustworthy arms for tournament time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets some innings on the weekend come SEC play. Maybe we see Noot get some midweek starts/innings when he’s healthy

Hurd hasn't locked down anything yet. Although, I think that's what Jay wants to happen.

He started and pitched LSU to a natty. He's earned slack and the benefit of the doubt at this point early in the season.

7 hits in 5 innings, 2 ER against Texas State. Based were loaded in the 5th when he got the 3rd out, but he was on the ropes.

Texas State is a good team. But, they aren't SEC level good. It's a stretch to say Hurd pitched great.

to be fair, Braswell had some series issues that inning that cost some outs and a run

You didn't watch the game if you truly believe what you just typed here.

I just looked back at the Baseball Savant numbers a little bit for Hurd yesterday. One of the run scoring hits TSU got was 51 MPH off the bat with an xBA of .110.

He pitched fine. He had a long layoff between innings and came back a little lest sharp, but still was more unlucky than bad.

More importantly, look at the spinrates for both his fastball and curveball

I don't look at that a ton, because I don't have enough practical knowledge on how to apply those numbers.

It's always funny to me when some LSU media get on twitter citing fastball spin rates when I know they have no idea how it affects anything. It's just "Yay numbers!"

Just know that the numbers fit in with the MLB averages. The run on his fastball is filthy.
