Documentation of LSU Athletic giveback to the University - Approaching $100M since 2010

A quick google search shows some Advocate and Baton Rouge Business Report articles outlining athletic's givebacks to the university over the past 10 years roughly.
While this is not directly related to the idiotic questions being asked regarding private donations to upgrade LSU athletics facilities, this has a tangential component. I have said it before - LSU athletics is a business in to itself; developing and investing in that business (with private donations no less) is a prudent choice. This is especially impactful when they give money to the academic side, they would otherwise not have.
Here are some spinets over the past few years documenting the giveback...

Extrapolating this shows to be approaching $100M at the current time, since 2010.

LSU's athletic department announced Monday that it'll transfer $10 million to the university -- about $3 million more than its required payment. LSU’s main campus receives a guaranteed $7.2 million from its athletics program each year, according to the athletics funds transfer policy approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2012. In a news release, the athletic department said a surplus this year allowed for an additional $2.85 million to be given to the university.
quote:
In the past five fiscal years[2015 article], the department said it has transferred an average of $8.7 million each year ($43.5 million overall).
quote:
“These funds provide vital resources for our students, faculty and staff, and they help to sustain LSU as one of the top research institutions in the country," Athletic Director Joe Alleva said.
quote:
LSU is one of only seven athletic departments in the country that relies solely on self-generated revenue and doesn't take student fees.

While fold out locker room chairs/beds is a bit ridiculous, it's FAR more practical that many other amenities in locker rooms/football ops buildings at other school. However, the fact that LSU is getting criticized for this is simply just the byproduct of our social media society. 10 years ago this wouldn't have gotten much traction outside of the state and college football circiles. But now, everyone feels it is their duty to virtue signal on social media. Every a-hole thinks their opinion not only matters, but is greater and more enlightened than everyone else's opinion. And it's is nothing more than vapid, empty virtue signaling. These guys aren't going to go out and "right the wrong" or "change the unfair system." It's FAR more important just to tell everyone how much you disagree. Then you get to be a modern society "hero" simply by doing absolutely nothing.
"I don't just disagree with this, but I disagree more than anyone else in the world can disagree. See! I care more than you. Just look at my tweet!!! I should be celebrated for caring so much!"

LSU would be Southeastern Louisiana without the massive funding being generated by the athletics department. It's not like LSU academia is bringing in investment dollars anywhere near the scale of the athletic department to grow the university. Those criticizing these upgrades, needs to learn how not to kick their gift horse in the mouth.

From the article:
LSU is one of only seven athletic departments in the country that relies solely on self-generated revenue and doesn't take student fees. The other schools are Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Nebraska and Purdue.

That's all fine and dandy but you're explaining this to the wrong people. This needs to be sent to the media who have agendas and biased reporting. Most of us already know this and don't need convincing.

Posting it on here IS like sending it to media...as they use this place as research most days.

Tats great but if the school goes under because the academic buildings are shitty and no students want to attend the school, there will be no more LSU football. It can not exist without the school.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t upgrade athletic facilities. We should. But we should also be highly concerned about the academic side of this as well. You want people (even non athletes) to want attend your school. They won’t do that if the classrooms and facilities look like a shithole.

Sure but you are mixing apples and oranges. You need to address LSU leadership if you are unhappy with the usage of funds that they take in - from state, students, or LSU athletics.
This came from funds raised - donations.
So conflating LSU athletic upgrades from donations, with LSU academics and the university as a whole, is wrong.

It seems like a competition to see who can find the next thing to be outraged about and then, who can be the most outraged. Two days later it's on to the next thing. It seems like it would be exhausting living in a state of constant outrage and righteous indignation.

I want to say LSU and Texas are the only two schools that give money back to Academics as well.

what about the $160 million spent for that new building on Nicholson extension?
wasn't it 60-80 million spent on the old CEBA for upgrades?
I think you need to make sure your facts are straight!!!!
