513 rush to 567 pass - pretty balanced imo. But, I do agree that we will have to run more to set up the pass bc we don't have a coach on the field playing QB this year. Joe's ability to read defenses, make adjustments and communicate with his WR's on option routes and extending plays was what gave this team that extraordinary record breaking offense. The ability to adjust to defenses as the game progresses will still be there, just not at the elite level that the Brady-Burrow-Ensminger-Munoz provided. I think we lean heavy on the run early opening up passing downfield.

Go check our pass to run ratio this season, then get back with us.

We were a pass heavy team

The ratio only appears more balanced because Joe took of running on so many designed pass plays

Now look at the box scores of the individual games and you'll see that Burrow running on designed pass plays makes up a big chunk of the running plays

It's not like we have all these amazing plays that nobody has ever thought of before. It mostly came down to execution. Look at our 1st TD against Clemson for example. It was simply a case of 1) our guy (Chase) was better than their guy and 2) a really accurate throw. The long Chase catch to setup the 2nd TD was the same. The Marshall slot fade TD, same thing again. The main difference between 2018 and 2019 is that our plays now allow our playmakers to make plays. We now can make the most of the skill advantage we've always had.

I think Brennan has the ability/potential but can he beat out the other 3 QBs on the roster is unforeseen at this time.

Fwiw, O said it's Brennan's job to lose

Eh. Less than you think. But a lot of runs did come with the game will in hand. Even still, particularly toward the end of the season, we ran fairly equally.

They passed more than they ran

Season stats: 52.5% pass
47.5% run

It was actually a pretty balanced offense.

Also...0.67 points per play. Crazy high, especially considering last year we were getting 0.42 points per play.

I don’t think the overall stats are quite indicative of just how paddy happy this offense was. I’d be more interested in the first half stats. I’d be willing to bet the numbers are even more skewed toward the passing game. We were definitely a pass heavy team when it mattered most. When you’re ahead by 30 at f time your rushing attempts tend to be higher in the 2nd half

We’ll have the playbook, but we can’t replace Jeaux’s ability to read the defense, place the ball, and buy just enough time to get the pass off. Hopefully his work ethic rubbed off on the younger guys and we’ll have a good season.

No man...we are going straight back to the Les Miles offensive playbook. If it was good enough for Les Miles, it sure in the hell is good enough for LSU.

Damn...where do you morons come from?

We are going to have the same damn offensive playbook LSU had last season. As that playbook was a collaboration created by Joe Brady and Steve Ensminger, with feedback from Joe Burrow. It now remains the permanent property of the LSU Operations Building. Indeed, I anticipate that playbook being used until it eventually becomes obsolete if ever.

Now the playcalling will be tailored and customized each successive season to match the personnel LSU puts on the field.

Indeed, this thread has to be one of the dumbest threads I've read on this forum in the past few days.

I think playbook will be similar although we probably feed the good RBs a little more. Fewer designed QB runs. Lots of variables will determine how effective. Oline play, and Brennan's ability to read the defense quickly will be huge.

We should keep the same playbook and only adjust the play calling (to the strengths of the players).

I remember when they were essentially running 1 running play: the Toss Dive.

Perfectly balanced would better describe it, IMO.

When you run the table in the SEC, slobberknock the playoff teams, and win the Natty...

The term "balanced" gets redefined - by LSU

If Brennan can be as accurate and on time with delivery as JB, we can run the same scheme. Our receivers were ridiculously polished this year and caught balls typically only seen at the NFL level. We didn’t fool the other team, we won the one on one battles over and over again. Think about the two Chase TDs and the Marshall TD in the Championship game.

This is what the investment of Brady delivered this year. Sure, some scheme, but mostly a coach focused on passing development through technique and execution. Chase and a Marshall got separation on jump balls without pushing off. They had just great technique.

I'm sure they will, as LSU now recruits to that type offense. Really comes down to how well Myles can run the offense. The better he can read and react, the more options the playcaller(s) will have at their disposal.

That’s true, but even while up we typically ran several pass plays. I didn’t do a deep dive, but it seemed balanced enough that I didn’t feel it would skew too much one way or another.
