Gotta be careful about codependence (I only bring this up because of the severe amount of it on TD, may not describe your situation). It leads to your kids (not grandkids, grandparents tend to have better boundaries than parents do) to be useless. Your happiness is not their job, although you are should take joy in it. You are supposed to raise good adults.
The first time is never the last time, especially with a daughter, when she grabs your finger after birth when she hasn't even been wiped down. There is a reason you don't offer the hand you're holstered on, because if she lets you have her hand, you will take it.

I’m 6’4” and about to turn 60 years old. When I was 48 I went into a cave in Missouri ( tour) had to duck walk a lot. I told my wife to take a picture because that’s the last cave I’ll ever go in. I’ll never go into another cave and I’ll never go

This has got me through being pissed or agitated just knowing this will all end and they are so young and i m trying to soak it all in I have a older son and I just watch videos of him and i get happy sad.
His child laugh and giggle has gone but ill play a video and it will be in there and its so pure, not one ounce of jadedness or negativity .
My great aunt in 96 I visit her about once every 2 months she is in great shape and spirits lives on her own but even time I leave that rude home is humbling because I dont know if ill ever see her again.
Take every moment and breathe it in. I have a memory of everyone the last time I spent with them before they were gone some are perfect others are regretful for not making it special.

I’m starting to really embrace this idea…when our youngest figures out the right way to say something after years of saying it wrong, it’s the end of an era.
We take the HOV lane home from school, and last week he finally stopped saying “HOV land”…I was like “no buddy, let’s just keep calling it HOV land”

I had an idea last Christmas would be the last one with our Dad and he did too. He wanted family Christmas at his house "one more time."

Yes on many important life endeavors……
But no on quite a few epic ones as well
Some I still think about more than 50 years later

I’ll say this, you don’t always know, but sometimes after having experienced enough “lasts”, you start to appreciate those times more, as you know it could be the last.

When I cracked a joke to my "adoptive" dad in the ER, that this was the first time he hadn't asked me to build or carry anything, and he didn't respond. But I remember every time he did previously with laughter.
