They've always been social events, no? I mean, tailgating is what LSU is known for.

My bro-in-law always anguishes about not only the students but the whole stadium leaving early every game.

Most stadiums it's the same as ours. I tell him it's just different than when we were brought up. Kids today are not brought up loving it with the same passion we were, not most of them at least.

Too many other options now, every game is on t.v. etc, etc. The game is secondary for the majority going there these days.

The excuse of the bars close at 2 is lame.

That's what the after party is for. I think the students leave early to charge their phones

They leave because the wifi in the stadium sucks. Can't stand to not use the phone for 2+ hours

The game itself used to be the social event. Those days have long passed. I've long since accepted that, but it is not easy for some people...as evidenced by the many threads on it after every home game.

It's a whole country problem outside of a few schools.
Remember when Saban called out the Bama students a few years ago

College halftimes are too long. Tv timeouts are too long and plentiful. All american sports should look into speeding up their games.

You have a point on this....but even if they did speed up the games thats not gonna keep people who leave early every game. Students or regular fans......

This sad thing is this is probably true for 3/4 of the people/students leaving.

Yes, unless its close or auburn in town they are generally the least engaged in the game. We have said for years Bama should cut the student seating in half.

Back in the dark ages when I was a student, students left early - you brought in booze and when it ran out, and the post-game parties were starting, you left. If it was raining, you left earlier. Who we played, what our record was, the score - largely irrelevant to a lot of students then, and apparently now.

It's a social event and a tradition first for (many) students, not a riveting sports event with our pride on the line like it is for the majority of people, including me, who spend time on this site. Nothing new, though, and I'd bet not different at many other places.

I don't know if I'd saying it's secondary persay, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that years ago you couldn't watch the LSU game outside of the stadium. It would be blacked out or just not televised at all. Nowadays you can watch it anywhere, so I think that coupled with some other things (heat, girls not wanting to be there, etc. etc.) is a big part of why students (and all fans) leave early nowadays.

As some have already mentioned, sell beer and they will stay. Buzz wears off, people start leaving.

All these people saying the student section is no worse than any other section, because they all leave early... are full of it.

The student section is clearly the first to leave, and it's very noticeable.

I've never seen a worse student section in all my years of watching games at LSU. If you're a student at LSU right now, in that section, you need to know how bad you suck. You need to be told.

There must be something with this generation. I had my 14 year old son with me at the Missouri game. He started working me to leave in the 3rd quarter. I told him to sit his arse down. Like he has anywhere to be on a Saturday night at age 14. We stayed to the end, dammit. Kids need to be taught right from wrong. And it's wrong to leave the game that early.
