Is the heat the reason LSU played so many night games?
I think it was a combination of things. Including some things done by Huey P Long, if I remember correctly.

No.

Every year, LSU is voted one of the top uniforms in the nation... Every year, moron LSU fans want to look like a HS in purple.

As a neutral observer, the LSU white jersey with gold pants is one of the best looking unis in college football. Would like to see them wear white for the UCLA game.

No. White.

Still wish they would wear those Nike combat jersey’s that were worn against Arkansas & Auburn in 09 & 11 again.
Those weren’t the same uniforms & it was a one time thing

I grew up following LSU football in the late 1950's and 1960's and never envisioned that purple jerseys would ever be worn in Tiger Stadium.
Purple jerseys, or gold jerseys on occasion (as versus Florida and Kentucky in 1959) were strictly road fare. And that's the way it should be, even 65 years later.
Our traditional gold/white/gold pattern should be worn at home; any home alternative (like the all white uniform or the old school look vs Arkansas in 2009 or the retro look vs Miss St in 2018) should involve white jerseys. Purple jerseys at home is simply heresy-- it would be fine, however if there were some way we could wear the gold/purple/gold uniform more often on the road.

I think there is a provision for both teams to wear colors provided there is enough contrast. USC and UCLA do it. Certainly LSU would contrast enough against some of the SEC schools. A&M and Miss St would definitely be a no go. But Tenn, Texas, Ole Miss in light blue, Vandy/Mizzou in gold would all work.

I don't know why we don't wear more different color combos! Oh yeah, the old frickers would lose their mind

Should wear purple a lot more often. Looks better than the white

I know there have been occasions we wore purple on the road in the not too distant past (Miss St in 2007 and 2009; South Carolina one time; Vandy in 2019; maybe a couple more games). IMO these are the proper occasions for purple jerseys; also for bowl games.

I think Jim Corbett really made night football a thing at LSU when he was the athletics director at LSU. In those days,, apparently a huge portion of the workers in small towns across South Louisiana worked in the fields and the plants on Saturday. He reasoned that LSU could draw much better at night.
I think he coined it "The Great Society of Equality" when everybody; doctors, lawyers, farmers, etc could join together on Saturday night to cheer for the Tigers.

That sounds about right. I also think the radio broadcasts had something to do with it, too. Less games were played during at night, which meant you would have a larger pool of listeners at night tuning into the LSU game.

Agree. The purple jerseys aren't a "classic" combination; LSU wore them at home only because they were forced to, then immediately abandoned them when the NCAA came to their senses, for once.
Kentucky used to force LSU to wear purple in Lexington, but they were the only team that regularly did that. Wearing the purple jerseys was so rare, managers would be waiting by the door in the locker room to take the purple jerseys as soon as the players came in the locker room after the Spring game or a rare regular season road game in them. They were essentially collector's items, and they didn't want them to show up missing.

Purple jerseys, white pants, white helmet are terrific but are only for a single non-conference game each year.
All SEC games need to be the classic combo unless we do some kind of tribute uniform or Nike pro combat thing again.
And I despise the white on white look with white helmets.

White…
EXCEPT for one big SEC night game a year when we could pull out the purple (that’s with the gold pants and hats).
I used to hate the gold/purple/gold after 95 because IMO it represented the worst years of LSU football, but they looked sharp in the bowl game and it kinda won me over.
Give us a purple (SEC) game!
…all that said, white for damn sure.

Fixed it for you. Wear the purples on the road or neutral sites, never at home.

Should be worn for all non conference games in Tiger Stadium like in the past.
