No way around the fact that thus far, Welter has proven to be somewhere between below average and horrific. Maybe he'll be great this year, but history hasn't suggested as such. That said, maybe he'll follow the Jack Hunt trajectory between '02 and '03. Hunt turned a corner in '03 and became instrumental in the success of the defense after Roy Williams dragged his balls all over Hunt's forehead in the previous year's Cotton Bowl.

Personally I don't think Welter has proven anything. Chief has him starting ....that's saying something

It is still a good ways until fall practice & the first game.
As others have stated, Welter has contributed very little so far, so perhaps he'll be motivated a little extra by atleast getting a look by the coaching staff at the inside linebacker position.
Unless he makes some major steps, I still have doubts he'll be a huge contributior in 2013.

Just don't change positions and race and be critical. Being critical of white linebackers seems to be all the rage. I guess because everyone knows they can't play this position at a high level.

because a bunch of good ole boys on here are having their inner rudys crushed by the possibility that the white guy might end up as the weak link on the defense. similar to sanders, cutrera, etc
