I have noticed in the last several months a lot of people have been praising him.

I have not read those posts... I think he gets the starts early on and will continue to play but if Beckwith or Garrett show signs of capability they will get some PT at his expense. Garrett however may wind up outside. JMHO

Chavis is is to linebackers as cam is to QBs.

I trust him 100%

If he starts him at mlb that means he's the best option. End to story.

Yes KB, meaning Kendall Beckwith obviously, should win the starting job over Welter. But also Clifton Garrett could be a factor, though I would project him as a star of the future, beginning in the 2015 season.

so if welter starts the season then Chavis has taken all relevant information into the decision and completely fricked up on who should play the linebacker position. I'm asking.

I guess...but I don't see the difference in starting someone who isn't quite as seasoned and starting Welter who just isn't big or athletic enough to complete assignments. If Welter

If I lose, I lose with my best athletes on the field if it's a toss-up.

I know Welter and his family, I really want him in there, he just wasn't making plays that a MLB should make routinely, much less any spectacular plays. Even when his assignments were correct, his lack of speed/athleticism made him look slow and give up ydg.

I'd start Beckwith and if he looks good out the gate, stick with him. Welter was a heavy liability in the run game last year, you do not want that against a run game like Wiscy has.

In all honesty, he'd just be a rotational player.

I trust whatever decision the staff makes, but if he does start and finds himself blocked out of 90% of the plays again I'll be disappointed in their choice.

So you are a big time football coach?

I sort of trust Chavis over some wannabee internet genius. But that's just me.

That's the way he looked all season.

If Beckwith is a banger in the box, he might get the bulk of the playing time in the first game. Wisconsin wants to play a power game and Beckwith has raw power that could matchup well with UW if he's fully acclimated and ready to play.

Whoever is playing MLB is going to have to come up and play physical in the running game and take on FB Derek Watt and some OL at times. He may be improved, but D.J. was not a strong player in the box last year.

If he is our best option, start him. If he is our best option, we got linebacker trouble. Not a SEC caliber linebacker, period.

Its simple the best player starts. This isn't decided by some moron in the stands that has a belly full of jack daniels or the internet baddass who never played a down of pee wee football. Its decided by the coaches who watch practice everyday.

I'd upvote 100 times if I could. You should make this your sig quote.

He misses tackles, blows coverage and is just too slow/unathletic. IMO he knows the d (which he should), can read defenses and communicate. That's not a knock on KB or CB since they'll both play on Sundays. Recruiting needs to make more emphasis on linebackers of quality ratings or not. sometimes going outside Louisiana. I'm very excited about the future of lsu and I think welter can succeed if we support him and give appreciation/praise. He's a great leader and I trust our coaches.

I agree with you with one exception. I expect Welter to start the season no matter what others do. KB may make the case in Fall camp to win the job but he will not get it until or if he can earn it and displace DJW as the season progresses. Chief has shown that he will bump players up the depth chart as the season goes on. I do not think he starts the season with a greenhorn right out of the box...
