I look forward to DJ being our long-time lockdown corner. That said, Clemson has a great passing attack and flashing elite skills is not the same thing as understanding your role well enough to start. He may be great at man, but who knows if he’s ready to play whatever Baker wants to do vs Clemson.

I have faith he’ll get out there when it’s his time. Maybe that’s week one; maybe not. I have faith they’ll put him in position to succeed, but I won’t second guess it if they lean heavier on Delane and Stamps in week one vs a top team on the road.

The last two 5 star corners that have come to lsu under Corey Raymond (Derek Stingley , Eli ricks ), were day 1 starters. Corey Raymond has repeatedly shown he will start stud corners from day 1 enough with the seniority crap Pickett is your most talented corner and you’re arguably facing the best wr trio we’ll see all year. Best on best over experience that simple

A lot of the people watching camp have been saying they see the flashes (like this clip), but that he’s also given up his share of plays (to be expected for a true freshman) and is not as day-one ready as Stingley and Ricks were. Not far off, but that it may take a few games before he’s playing major reps.

If the staff trusted Sage fricking Ryan and Duce Chestnut against Keon Coleman 2 years ago, why tf wouldn't you trust the 5-star no.1 cb in the country? Play the best the seniority mindset is lame

They played because the only others available were true freshmen and a knucklehead in Denver Harris. That’s not the case this year. We have depth with experience.

If Pickett beats them out, great. If he needs a few games to get into the flow (like 98% of true freshmen at CB), then we are set up for that now, which is a good thing. If Pickett is ready, Raymond will play him.

As for “seniority mindset,” meh. This staff started at least five true freshmen on defense at different times last year. If Pickett is ready, he will start. If he doesn’t start, it won’t be because of some misguided loyalty to upperclassmen.
