If anyone out there has these services, please post a review. Considering getting off COX. In fact would love to eliminate Cox.
How reliable is the signal in bad weather?
What about trees?
Can you get a 2nd box and take it to Tailgate, under the same account?
What's the best value?
Please throw any any other info and thanks in advance.

Just switched to Dish from Direct and realized I don't have ESPNU with my new comparable package to Direct.

I have direct and seldom lose it, during a hard storm it might go out for 5 minutes or so. Charter is in our area, vs. Cox, and Direct vs. Charter is a slam dunk.
I've watched dish at friends' houses and prefer Direct's interface and lineup.

cox has better guide arrangement and channel organization, WAYYYYYYYY better on demand and paperview system, cheaper, more consistant with reception, local customer service, no contract
channel lineups are about a wash in most areas except the fact that direct TV doesn't offer CST
ETA- with direct, i don't get fox sports either, and i pay $92/month (with HBO) and have to get internet and phone seperate
with cox, my internet, phone, cable was all around $100/month and i get just about the same channels nowexcept for a few big sports ones but i get some extra ones i never watch anyway
sometimes i like just sitting back and looking through the whole guide and seeing whats on....thats basically impossible on direct because of all the crap they keep on the guide and how far apart all the channels are
and i don't know how the paperview movie work for everyone else, but since i don't have a home phone...it absolutely sucks. it isn't like cox where you can just order what you want and watch it when you want. you can order it, but you still watch it when they offer it

Dish Network is the best value but you get what you pay for. They have the lowest basic package (bronze) of anyone I have ever heard of (but that doesn't include ESPNU). It has to be raining hard to lose the signal, and trees obviously need to be taken into account in the original installation. What I like about it is that I only pay $5.99 for one box and it services two TV sets. Since it has two tuners/two remotes, etc, you don't have to have one box for every television which of course saves money every single month.
The services is very reliable and I have a nice superstation package that includes a Denver station, a Boston station, two New York area stations, and an Los Angeles station. I've been a customer for 12 years and wouldn't switch unless they really started screwing me on the price or unless they started taking away important stations on the basic package. They did remove the NFL Network which I care nothing about but they gave me a one time rebate for the removal. The higher packages have ESPNU, NFL Network, etc.

hah... i've had nothing but problems with cox when I had them.
during gustav, no service for 14 days.
you think they didn't charge me?
of course they did!
my neighbor has direct tv and said his service never went out during gustav.

if you want innovation go with Directv as they are constantly updating the software on their boxes to implement new features. Coming soon is multi room viewing. Basically if you have one DVR in the house you will be able to watch the recording in any room.
also like another poster said they were up during Gustav so if you had any power you were able to watch tv.
I have had Directv for about 15 years and the only gripe I have is that they do not have CST.
Cox sucks in every way possible. I hated their TV service, the antiquated cable boxes they use. I hate their internet that was always giving me problems. I was so glad when I moved to Prairieville and got Eatel for internet.

after Katrina, when my power came on,i already had cox....everyone has a story about how they had service through _______
hell, last thursday in perfect weather i lost espn hd for the ga tech/clemson game
last sunday for the saints game, i lost total signal on all 3 of my hd boxes
there is really no comparison about what service is more consistent without losing service, direct goes out WAY more than cable....and thats not even a big deal to me
