I trust Woodward to keep Wade here long term and begin upgrading some basketball facilities

I also have to think our perimeter defense will be improved this year with Smart, Manning and others eating up Tremont's minutes.

You mean the same Waters that averaged over 3 steals per game and was named SEC Defensive POY last season? Yeah, because he was such a defensive liability.

I loved Waters but he really didn’t deserve THAT award. That was your typical we have a great player that we can’t give player of the year so let’s hive him another award. He wasn’t even the best defensive player on our team and I’m not sure he was second or even third. He was your typical undersized guard who couldn’t really guard anybody with decent size so he gambled in passing lanes. He was really good at it but that isn’t what great defenders do that is what limited defenders do.

I agree. Waters always tried to jump passing lanes and get steals. Sometimes that worked out but more often than not it left his man wide open taking a 3 pt opportunity when he didn't steal the ball. He also would get caught watching the ball and inching into the lane and letting his man sneak off to the corner for an open shot. He wasn't a good defender in half court. He had quick hands and was able to get some steals, but that was it.

Yes, that Waters. I absolutely loved Tremont. One of my all time favorite tigers, honestly. But getting a few steals a game doesn’t mean he was a necessarily great defender. He often would over commit and get burned. It was pretty much boom or bust for him as a defender. Luckily we had KBW last year to help clean up the mess on the interior.

You have a fake degree. Sorry you chose a shite field.

Hating on the only mens coach that brought a sec title to town last year is weak

I am more excited about the basketball team after their trip to Spain.

I doubt they can go 26-5 and 16-2 again, but they will be fun to watch and will be a tourney team again.

Manning and Watford will be more efficient than Waters and Reid imo.

Can’t wait.

One of the missing pieces from last year's team to put them in a truly elite category. They had guys who could hit 3's but they weren't that pure shooter like a Marcus Thornton. A true inside/outside game is really hard to defend. This team can be really good.

Let’s talk lineups . Based on Spain, where do we see the starting lineup and rotation being?

Smart
Mays
Manning
Watford
Williams

Days
Taylor
Bishop
Cooper
Thomas
Hyatt
Graves

I think you nailed the starting line up.

Did Thomas play at all in Spain?

Was he even on the trip? I don't recall.

The only negative is in the post, but that's a solid lineup all the way through. If Days and Taylor are potentially bench players, damn ...

Thomas was on the trip (saw him in pics), but I never saw a stat on him.

I assume he didn't play.

OK. I wonder if it was some eligibility issue, as he wasn't in school yet, or enrolled, etc.?

Unless the JUCO 6 9 kid can play quality minutes we will get beat very badly on the boards especially on the road in the SEC. playing five out will work if the three point shooting significantly improves. Going to be extremely hard to go 16 and 2 in the SEC again. We play a very very weak out of,conference schedule. So we will not know until the SEC season starts.

I think it is too early to say how we will be on the boards.
We have not seen the team play, and I remain cautiously optimistic until more information is available.

Very weak year for big men in the SEC. I think that issue is way overblown.

Unlike our previous buffoon of an AD who over promised and under delivered time and time again. Oh yeah, and his knee jerk reaction cost us N'Faly Dante.

A big part of rebounding is positioning, hustle, and just wanting the ball more. I have faith in Wade to recruit guys like this, and to maximize their production off the glass. We tend to forget that we actually have an adult in the room coaching our squad. We were lacking this forever.

This statement alone makes me discredit everything else you said, as it is obvious you are one of those fans that just looks at the name of the school and automatically assumes they are weak because it isn't a power 5 school. You probably thought last years was going to be weak too and it ended up helping LSU to have one of the strongest resumes for the tournament due to the quality and performance of those teams. Wade knows what he is doing when it comes to OOC scheduling.

Btw, here are just a few for you:

VCU - will be a top 30 and possible top 25 team to start the season
USC - top 10 recruiting class coming in headlined by two 5-star players
Bowling Green - 22 win team last year and returns 4 of 5 starters and are strong contenders to win their conference.
