I’d rather a kid be aggressive then sit and wait. You gotta make a statement to the pitcher. If he builds off of you waiting and watching it go by. He’s gonna catch you slipping. I like how aggressive they are now. Frick that let the first pitch go shite. It’ll be more helpful down the road let them hack now before they go back to being patient which I hope they don’t.

I think it depends on the situation. If you go up there hacking against an elite arm, you're not gonna chase the starter very fast.

I’m not saying that it’s the best thing to do. But if it’s right down the middle I rather them swing and miss then not swing at all and let it go by you get what I’m saying?

I get it, but it has to be the pitch you're looking for. If you go up there expecting an off speed pitch you dont just hack at a fast ball because it's a strike or vice versa.

Haha when I was in high school a lot of those kids were told to wait and see the pitches. They even had me try it. But I declined. And I was the most aggressive hitter on the team. A coach even got mad that I didn’t wait. Idgaf. It builds confidence in your teammates. And lowers the pitchers

It won't lower the pitcher's confidence if you keep grounding out or swinging and missing though. Your assumption is that swinging at the first pitch results in a positive for the batter.

My thing with sitting on pitches. Is that you’re thinking so much about what the pitchers gonna do. Now if it’s the 4th inning and you and guys have figured out the signs and the way he holds the ball or the glove a certain way then yeah it would be wiser to sit. But the first couple innings I would be aggressive.

I’m going to just end it like this. If the first pitch looks good. Have a hack at it. That’s literally what I’ve said. Yeah it’s not always gonna be a strike but that’s where plate discipline comes in. Off speed or fastball or not you should expect everything. What if he noticed you sat on a fastball and was a tad early or late? him and his coaches are gonna take advantage.

You gotta stop talking baseball now man. I really am trying to say this in a non-a-hole way, and I understand the point you're trying to make, but it's clear you dont really understand the game

Okay since you’re so understanding, tell me. What I do not understand about the game? All I stated was that being aggressive is better. In my own opinion. Since you are such a god at understanding baseball and coaching go coach a team. From my experience of the game I did a pretty good job at what I did. kids have egos and all the gear but couldn’t even hit the ball man. Idgaf what you gotta say dude. Trynna look good for the rant since you know everything about baseball. You prolly the ones I striked out in high school cause you sat there and waited for the right pitch when the right pitch was the first one bitch. “Yeah only in certain situations.... is bull fricking shite. You mean to tell me you are gonna sit there at a perfectly good pitch go through there without an attempt to swing? “But I Was looking for a certain pitch” is bullshite also. Now your arse is on the bench cause you waited on a pitch you never got.

I absolutely agree with this

quote:

you are such a god at understanding baseball

Never claimed to be, and I know that I'm not

quote:

waited for the right pitch when the right pitch was the first one

I agree that letting the first pitch go just bc it's the first pitch is stupid. But you have to be looking for a certain pitch in a certain spot. Just swinging at the 1st pitch bc it's the 1st pitch is stupid also

quote:

But I Was looking for a certain pitch” is bullshite also

At this level you have to go up to the plate with a plan, "swing at strikes" is not a sufficient plan

And I'm gonna ignore all the insults you threw my way bc I understand that I sound like an a-hole in my previous post

I’m sorry my guy. Didnt mean to insult you. Just hate when people make excuses for coaching. I didn’t say swing at the first pitch no matter what. If the first pitch is good. And in the zone and you know it’s in the zone. Swing. I mean if you miss you miss. But after the first pitch he’s gonna give you everything he’s got. And you may have trouble with certain pitches. You may not be able to make contact with certain pitches he’s throwing again they are playing elite talent right? If he throws a free one at you on the first pitch. Just because it’s not in the spot you’d like at least try to make contact. Cause that might be the best pitch you see. That’s all I’m saying.

More “friends and family” plan—another former player. But “midweek games don’t matter, blah, blah, blah,” sunshine pumping. While the program sinks further.
