Does anyone know the financial end of the deal with the Tigers playing baseball in Houston? Did we get a share of the gate? A flat fee to play?

I know we had the most fans by far and was wondering if LSU shared in the financial windfall. For those early season football games in Houston and Dallas, I am certain we make money. I was curious about baseball.

I doubt it. The Astros organization probably pockets the little revenue it generates. It's just good exposure for LSU in a pro-LSU market. I can deal with not making anything off of it

They might get some sort of travel accommodations/deal out of it but exposure is worth traveling for and it's an easy trip for LSU and the host schools are all pretty close too like A&M, Baylor, Houston and Rice (when they play in it)

I was wondering same thing. Does LSU play "free of charge" with Astros providing all traveling costs or do the teams split a net profit?

Vast difference in travel cost, i.e. U of Houston who probably slept in own beds as compared to Hawaii who had a very long flight.

This is what I would gather. Maybe the accommodations would be comp'd, but beyond that, no clue

It was a winner take all format. A&M got paid.

U of H was actually staying at the same hotel that I was near the Galleria. Thought it was very odd that they would get put up in a hotel since they were playing in their city

LSU does this for Football. I am sure for regular games they stay home, not for a tourney like this.

would be my guess as well. i know its apples and oranges but one of the main reasons the winn dixie/busch challenge stopped was gates sales being split and lsu providing a large % of those sales. skip bailed out on it. tragic, because that was an awesome event i remember attending during my high school years.

Why would the Astros get any money? Do they own the stadium?

Yes, it's their stadium and they run the events there.

but exposure is worth traveling for

LSU baseball needs exposure? We would have made a lot more money playing in the Box, controlling the ticket revenues and concessions. This was a money loser for LSU athletics.
