I think one of the scouts clocked him at 102. Since these guys make their living reporting accurate information to their teams I would 6trust that reading.

He consistently touched 99 as a freshman. He has better control this year so he's slowed down a few mph on average. I doubt he touched 102. But if the adrenaline was flowing and one just rolled off the fingers just right he could.

Just FYI, the guinness book of world records has the fastest pitch at 100.9- Nolan Ryan

My understanding is that Gausman tops out around 97 and usually sits around 94 and people like Cox add a few mph to make ping seem more professional.

Your understanding if wrong. I've been to several of Gausman's games and he's routinely hit 99 on the guns and 100 a couple of times that I'm aware. He's toying with a cutter that comes in around 90/92. This guy don't need Cox or anyone else propping him up.

I don't think some of you guys realize how inaccurate some of these radar guns can be. Did Gausman hit 102 last night? Not a chance in hell. A lot of those guns are inflated by 5 mph or so. I can assure you that Gausman doesn't throw harder than guys like Justin Verlander and he doesn't hit 102.

Agree about the greatness of James Rodney but if he passed it's news to me.

I remember in one broadcast they said he gets over 100 when he does his crow hop throw to the plate before each inning, maybe that's what they were talking about last night?

Was told that #LSU RHP Kevin Gausman was 95-97 early last night vs. #MississippiState, 94-95 FB late in the game. Wow.

Maybe he did add 8 mph onto his fastball late in a game. Probably not though.

Hmmmmm.... who to believe a professional scout or some guy on the rant!

You do realize it is all relavent anyway. If 102 really means 98 then 94 really means 90. So it is 8 mph faster than other good fast ball pitches regardless.

Why would they be inflated? If I'm the general manager of a MLB team looking to invest millions in a young arm I would insist on accurate information.

The BR paper is reporting that a scout clocked him.

James Rodney. What a fastball!

BTW, in 2009 it was mentioned in a broadcast at the CWS, that Stephen Strasburg, then of San Diego State, was supposed have thrown a pitch over 100 mph, and a batter from Virginia hit it out of the park (that was in a regional, I think).

Not sure what thats all about. Maybe according to their people and radar guns. That Dominican player for Colorado rockies in the late 90's who was not even that good had terrible control and wildly inconsistent would hit low to mid 100's but i dont think he even stayed in the league that long because of his control issues.

Also Justin Verlander for Detroit Tigers probably the permier pitcher in MLB right now can hit low hundreds late in games and tends to get faster and stronger in the late innings. They were talking about him on sports center just the other day.

Because it didn't look like he was throwing that hard, and there a very few human beings that can touch 100, much less 102

I doubt that number as well because well, it's 102.

But, he was throwing hard...had a great fastball for him last night.

He was consistently throwing the ball past some pretty good hitters.

Well, except for the middle part of the order.
