Great Quote About Officials:"We are actually held to a higher standard than players or coaches, which we readily accept, but no one hurts over a missed call more than the official who made it."
Here's an image of the back cover of his book. Note the personalized message/autograph from Paul Bryant.

Nice catch on that cache BobABooey.
I posted this in another thread that never gained as much momentum as some of the others, so I'm putting it here as well.
While I meant my "analysis" of what I "learned" from that link to be entirely joking in nature - I find that, in retrospect, I was only 98% joking.

“I wanted to express my appreciation for pointing me to Dick Burleson. To say Dick was well received would be a gross understatement. He was on point and educational in the area of leadership, and his anecdotes were great. He was outstanding. I’ve been with Bellsouth for 30 years and can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen a guest speaker receive a standing ovation. This was one of them.”

Hmmm... This Sam Long right here?
(Seems like the type of guy who would handle "power surges" and other "interference" involving communication equipment.)

Even if these calls were all just bad judgments with nothing sinister behind them, you guys need to keep digging and stir up as much shite as you can. The SEC needs to be made painfully aware that any frick-ups they make are going to be scrutinized to such a point that they have a public relations nightmare. It is only then that the officiating will improve.
My hat is off to you! Well done guys!

Slive and company have some explaining to do. I don't think this "No Comment" schtick is going to work for them any longer.

I'm sure some rich guys were there
Funny, from that article, more implication that Dick's always been a lapdog to Bama:
quote:
But even though it was the 15-yard variety of the infraction, Burleson didn’t award Alabama a first down. That was because at the time, the penalty was assessed from the spot of the foul — and not from the line of scrimmage, as it is today.
Alabama didn’t get the first down, so during the next media timeout, Burleson eased over to the Crimson Tide sidleline to give his side of the story to Bryant.
Bow to Bryant, Dick, BOW.

Has whois.org closed???
But seriously, since the SEC doesn't seem interested in pursuing this, does anyone know if there's an NCAA-level group that reviews situations like this where there is an appearance of a conflict of interest?

Have any rantards tried emailing sports columnists, sendin a link to jlsu1981's thread or just entering comments in their column section? Seems like a reporter could make a name for himself with a story like this- unless they get snuffed out by Slive and gang of course.

Some one needs to call and try to book him for the Bama booster club meeting in say Biloxi MS. and see what they tell you .
Some genealogy sites may give you links to his relative in Bama.

People, get screenshots of anything you find.
Don't assume any e-info will still be there in 5 minutes.
The SECartel is scrubbing web pages at a rate near that of the Obama campaign last year.
And don't forget to check out the cache link when you google things.
And be careful, no one knows how deep this thing goes yet.
