His website

I don't see anything about speaking to Bama boosters on his website and I have looked several times. The only place I see it is in the original post of this thread.

This is seeming to become a real conspiracy but since it is for the media darlings, no one is giving a shite, why not once but twice we are fricked by officals this year in game changing situations. This seems more of a story than "is Charles Weis, Wies whatever, on the hot seat. WHO frickING CARES!! We're talking bout a possible major scandal in a highly guarded association, that may possibly be fixing games in order to set a grande stage between to teams that have been posted as going to th SECCG since last year after the 08' SECCG.

And every saturday the evidence is mounting and more and more people are getting suspicous.

At first I thought that too. But I don't see it on the archived version from '08 that is in this thread either.

Read the damn thread. It's annoying how you johnny-come-latelies come around and try to poke holes in a theory that we've already addressed multiple times. It's been cited from multiple sources.

Exactly the point! Why have part time officials that may need money making calls that affect millions of dollars?

It would have bothered old Nicky if it was against his team. Hell, he about chokes a kicker if he misses an XP.

Um really? I haven't seen where proof has been provided that Burleson has received money from Bama boosters for speaking engagements. Please point me to the post...that is what I am looking to find.

Again, instead of name calling why don't you point me to the multiple sources citing where Burleson has in fact received money from Bama boosters.

Thanks.

I agree.
Curious that he took the most recent rendition of the site down though isn't it?

FWIW, my impression is that Auburners who are familiar with goings and comings in Alabama consider the Dick Burleson Booster Club appearances as common knowledge. It is all over their boards. Could be wrong, but I think the original source here was from an Auburn person too.

Yes. Although I would imagine this is the most traffic that site has ever seen.

Right. But if a national media outlet is going to run with this story they are going to need proof. I had one reply to me earlier looking for this specific information.

Yep. Found it. Weagle74 (Auburn)

From another board... (Posted on 11/10/09 at 8:39 p.m.)

"I find it interesting that the man in the REPLAY booth at the ALA/LSU game was Gen. Dick Burleson..a man that lives in Blount County ALA and often speaks at Bama club meetings for $$$...and also wrote a book called 'You Better Be Right"...which was a quote from his good friend Bear Bryant. Hmmmmmmm not only is Alabama paying Nick Saban and their players...they are also paying officials!"

I just think it is an inherent bias due to the fact that the bulk of the refs and the structure is based in Alabama.

The bulk of the refs are not based in Alabama. I don't know the current figures, but when my wife was working for the Devil (aka the SEC), there were more officials from the state of Tennessee than anywhere else. Second most was Louisiana. Alabama or Florida would have probably been third.

Yes, the actual SEC office is in Alabama, but I am yet to see a good reason why that is a problem. The staff is not all from Alabama. In fact, very few are. Would moving the offices suddenly change something? I just don't get the logic.

I'm not defending the call on Saturday, or even the SEC in general. I just am yet to hear a good reason why the location of the SEC is a problem, or where you would like it to be. Should they move it out of the southeast? That's the only way to get it out of some school's backyard.

Besides, now that my kids are in school, I want my wife to get her job back. How will she do that if they move the office?

Several threads on AU scout boards, but you have to be a member to read anything more than 1-2 lines.

Shoot that's not really going to help. If anyone can provide proof that Burleson was paid by Bama boosters for speaking there is a national news guy looking at the story.

I would assume so too. But maybe if we can prove that he spoke at a Bama booster function that would be a start.

yea some kind of proof would be nice. Maybe the bama booster clubs have a website with pics from events or a record of speakers.

...OK, so everybody (including Gumps) agree that it is a huge Conflict of Interest if Dick Burleson received money from Gump Boosters...

...So, big DICK needs to give details...

("no comment" is not sufficient answer)

A TV station has run with the Burleson was a Bama Booster Club speaker bit and apparently questioned the SEC League Offices about it. The SEC response:
quote:

Full Statement from the SEC:

1- The instant replay booth has three people inside, only one of which is the replay official and has any decision-making authority or role. This person makes the decision on any play under review. This position is not allowed to be a graduate of any of the participating schools in the game, just like the on-field officials. The instant replay official in this game was Gerald Hodges, who is not a graduate of either Alabama or LSU due to this policy.

2- The specific gentleman in the booth you inquired about served as the “communicator” in the Alabama-LSU game, not the replay official, which is clearly outlined on the flip card for the game. However, contrary to some false information out there, he is not a graduate of any SEC school. When he was an on-field official for many years, he was able to officiate any game in the SEC, including LSU and Alabama games, because of that fact.

3- Our officiating and replay rules and manuals are not for public dissemination, however, we do address things such as “the alma-mater” rule and where someone did or did not attend school when necessary to clear up any misunderstandings, which are quite common when an official’s name gets put out there and internet message board rumors begin.
