Was posted that the Daisy Mae was pregnant. I’m no equine expert, but I’m sure this played into it in some way.

This board is horrible. Do you really think Devin would allow this horse to be mistreated in anyway? This sounds like a colic case and nothing more. I’m sure the people claiming mistreatment don’t even know what that means. Educate yourself before you start making stupid accusations.

That is unfortunate but surprised it happened, did he not pay for care? was there negligence etc? not blaming him just curious if this was a result of improper care. Also, DW being in Tampa for camp etc I am assuming he was paying for her care.
Daisy Mae was being housed at Farr Park by LSU. The Stablehands watch out for all the horses and alert staff to any changes/issues.

Was she till at brec?
The level of care there is and always has been...
Lacking
Tigernation, while colic can happen at any time (I’ve lost one to it), the erratic feeding schedule and lack of proper turnout for months at BREC can definitely make a horse much more prone to it.
Not that I have seen colic listed as the cause anywhere so it seems you are the one speculating.

I have a feeling that if she was at BREC she was well looked after simply for the fact that Daisy Mae was so well known.

Ehhh...
I’ve been around Brec a lot over the last 19 years. I’m not saying it would be intentional, just ignorance. That facility is not one that should be government run.

Praying for him! Most of us have had that one animal that you just connected with like no other animal and it's a very sad day when that special connection comes to an end.

Confirmed Daisy Mae did pass away! RIP Daisy and prayers for DWhite!
Back in the 1800's stealing a mans horse was punishable by hanging. You could steal his wife and nothing be done, but steal his horse and you die.

To me, dehydration and over heated might mean she got out and got lost.

I’m pretty sure Daisy was at home with Devin In Cotton Valley area. He hosted a trail ride there just last weekend.

I didn’t think she was still there.
It hot and humid as hell right now and we have a few who are struggling with the heat. I filled buckets at our barn at 9 and most were empty at 2 when I checked before I left. Horses are damn fragile creatures.
Everything I’ve said about brec stills stands, though. That place could be great. Just needs to be privately run.

I have been around it for quite some time as well and while I understand your concerns (I have had them many, many times as well and voiced my opinion to management) I still don’t think they would have let anything happen to that particular horse. As much as Devin loved Daisy Mae I doubt very seriously he would have just left it in their hands without having someone check in on her routinely.

Well they didn’t, asit was stated above. Daisy Mae wasn’t there.
But that still leaves plenty of not famous boarder horses with subpar care.
Breakfast at 7ish then dinner a little after noon? They are out of hay by mid afternoon and do we really believe they always check water again before 5?
You couldn’t pay me to keep either of mine there, even if the high river wasn’t causing the issues it is right now.
And in this heat it is very easy for them to overheat. Who knows, she may even have stopped sweating. Not faulting him in any way that this happened. Just always get a kick out of people thinking BREC is a great place for horses.

I’ve had many great dogs but my current ole mutt dog is the best dog bar none I’ve ever had. Dumped at a loading facility I wked at late one night. Probably 12 weeks old covered n flees. I got him back healthy and he’s been the best dog ever. I dread the day.. 7 years old now !
