Let me start by saying that I think Auburn is terrible. They gashed us with the most simple of plays. It was nothing Auburn did and everything we did bad.

1. Effort- this was some of the most piss poor effort I’ve ever witnessed. Players all over the field jogging, giving up on the play, not wanting to tackle. They look disinterested. There is nothing coaches can do about this. You can’t coach effort. You need leaders to hold players accountable and chew some arse out.

2. Assignment- players are still busting their assignments. From what I can see, they are not understanding the call. There is no communication in the secondary. Zero eye discipline. We look lazy and confused. They are running defense as simple as it gets too, yet players are continuously out of position. Coach and players get the blame on this one, but with the Little effort the players show, it makes me wonder how much they actually have studied to understand the scheme.

3. Personnel- our best players are freshman and sophomores. You won’t get far with that combination. The opt outs and transfers have killed our depth and rotation. We have a backup offensive linemen starting at D tackle... Baskerville is the only linebacker that will come up and strike you with confidence. Toles, even with a bust in coverage, looks much better than Hampton to me. BJ Ojulari and Gaye are solid. I won’t even talk about Stevens or Clark, speaks for itself.

We are seeing an entire season of the Ole Miss game last year. It all starts with effort, and right now, there isn’t any, regardless of who the D coordinator would be.

I would start-
S: Harris / Toles or Stevens
CB: Stingley / Ricks
Nickle: Flott
LB: Baskerville / Cox
DE: Ojulari / Gaye
DT: Logan / Roy

Roy gets blown off the ball into the lbs all the time. He will be good but he doesn’t look ready imo.

I dont know why anyone would want Roy to start so bad, he's getting his sh*t pushed in like you would expect of a freshman honestly too much in the run game. Not a slight to him but he's not ready at all (nor would I expect him to be as a true freshman interior DL in the SEC) for every down in this conference, but hey I guess we got no one else.

Farrell and Logan plod around looking overweight and out of shape. We chased off our best interior defensive lineman because we wouldn't play him (Ika). Evans is at least solid and should be starting.

When you see players smiling and joking while they are getting completely THROTTLED on the field, they don't give a damn and certainly didn't give a damn in the film room.

Compound that with Coaches not jumping anyone's arse, they seem disinterested as well. Hell, CEO was more livid on the sidelines last year!

No Leadership from Coaches or Players!

I see no Alpha's...DOGs that want to dominate the player across from them.

You have a 4th year QB that hasn't been vocal, demanding or leading the offense! This is MB team and he just sat back watching, with the occasional smile.

You have supposed leaders on the Defense, that aren't vocal, aren't jumping down someone's throat and simple walking through the motions!

Where is the PRIDE?

An unbiased Auburn acquaintance who was at the game and in the press box told me yesterday that it’s even worse in person. He said it’s not that they’re bad, they’re also completely lost. Stingley and Harris were the only DBs who looked like they knew what the coverage was supposed to be and he couldn’t believe how slow we looked.

the hell you can't coach effort. we will make mistakes but we better be making them going all out and flying to the ball and if you can't contribute to this type of defensive effort then you can sit. Then at the end of the year we will sit down and consider whether we will be renewing your scholarship for next year. Effort is one hundred percent on coaches for allowing it. You think Saban allows kids halfway doing their role whether it is practice or game or whatever? NO, because they are held to a standard of excellence. If are players are not being held to that standard and are able to just get by with whatever then shame on the coaches.

I don’t know how you can continue to play Flott. He is awful as well.

He got dominated by a sophomore Will Campbell last year. He’s gonna be a Davenport type bust.

4. Current players are soft, and refuse to adjust to getting yelled at at practice. Pelini's nature does not suit the SJW generation.

Yeah, he was a toss up for me. I just don't know who else you have that can cover in that nickle role. He isn't afraid to tackle, but he was loafin and confused against Auburn. Regressing for sure.

Suggestion of starting Roy is a lazy take, shows that the OP is using stars and rankings for depth chart decisions and not actual performance.

Roy was ranked ahead of Ojulari last year; use actual game performances for these type posts.

He flashes at times, and I figured what did you have to lose. Develop him and let him gain as much experience as possible. This is an upside and effort Starting lineup. I know he isn't ready as a true frosh in the trenches...
