What exactly would you have done differently on defense yesterday?

The third and long thing is a definite concern. It's been going on going back to last year.

I definitely wouldn't have been in press man coverage with a little over a minute left and up 2 scores.

We weren’t in press man we were in a press look bailout coverage with middle help at both levels.

The defensive staff talking to Stingley, distracting him exactly when Bama hiked the ball. Is that why Aranda wasn't smiling in the background when Coach O got an ice bath?

This 3-4 front has been soft against the run and cannot get a pass rush. This has been a recurring problem since Aranda got here and it has not improved. Dammit Man, do something to correct it. Would love to see some 4-2-5 or something to take back the line of scrimmage.

There is essentially no difference between what we would look like in a 3-4 and a 4-2-5

None of our DL are going to be a better pass rushers or stronger against the run because Chaisson’s hand is on the ground.

Lol yea but it wasn’t press man. In press man you’re going to jam the WR and chase to undercut routes. What we did was walk up the corners at the last second to disguise what we were doing then bailed out which means no hands on the WRs you just bail and run when the ball is slapped. Maybe try educating yourself on different coverages, it’s not Nintendo there are more than 4.

Coming into the game this weekend LSU was in the top 10 nationally in 3rd and 7 or better

Where did that come from?

Look here.

LINK

After the Alabama game, we're 32nd, with 4.9 per game. We gave up 6 vs Bama. Look at the teams ahead of us. Clemson, Ohio State, teams we might well meet. Also Auburn, Florida, even Vanderbilt.

We've had some issues all year, primarily blown assignments in zone.

We've been pretty dang stout against the run. Harris did work us over pretty good.

SOME of that Saturday, as much as we might not want to admit it, was the absence of Divinity.

If I'm going to offer a critique it would be DBs need to get into run support more. They get blocked way too easy. Gump WRs were shoving them around.

You’re right, Delpit and Stingley are killing us in run support. Vincent for all his faults actually tackles well and Fulton isn’t scared to stick his nose in either. Delpit has very poor technique which is strange because prior to this year he was a sure tackler. And Stingley just wants no part of it period. He doesn’t wanna tackle and he goes out of his way to avoid ball carriers and stay blocked. This issue compounds all the little mistakes and causes the chunk plays.

The truth is that we have had a serious lack of talent on the Defensive line for quite a few years. Gone are the days of Glen Dorsey and Michael Brockers who could get pressure from the tackle spot and required double teams. Lawrence, Fehoko, and Logan are all good players but none will be drafted in the first 3 rounds of the NFL draft. Without elite defensive linemen, you have to get pressure in other ways and good qbs will exploit that deficiency, hence the fact that we give up some 3rd and longs. It’s also why we have trouble stopping the run. Devin White was able to mask some of those problems last year but we don’t have quite the same players at LB this year. Hopefully Orgeron’s recruiting success will help to alleviate this problem in the coming years.

Lmao well you must’ve forgot cover 1 free with bailout coverage on the boundary then. You really are a sad sack you know that? Anytime you’re proven wrong you jump straight to insults and ad hominem attacks. If you were half as smart as you think you’d know what that means in terms of argument or discussion.

I agree the 3rd and long thing is rather baffling. It is without question a problem.

The defense as a whole can play a damn strong half a game. We’ve seen it several times this year against some good offenses. I think depth is a problem here. We just don’t have the numbers at key positions to go all out for four straight quarters.

Delpit has been playing with a bum shoulder all year which has led to his tackling issues just FYI.

Also missing individual pass rushers and playing without a free safety. We have enough talent to mask these things and stay competitive but no DC is going to field an elite defense with those holes.

Alabama's offense is good AF. Make this post after the Ole Miss game and I'm on board. But come on, it's Alabama, and they were playing from behind.
