Defense is designed for the linebackers to make the plays

And they are not making the plays consistently. They make tackles but mostly 5-10 yards downfield.

Most of it seems to be from not recognizing the play and not being in position until it is too late.

did you see how bad chaisson was owned on that zone read by plumlee?

he is supposed to force him to give to RB on dive and stay home guarding edge. he went full retard crashing after the RB and plumlee pulled out and waltzed into the EZ untouched. that was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

queen had contain on the QB counter but pliumlee cut back in between tackles and then turned on jets. where were LB's scrapping and filling? or safeties? they got destroyed.

Well when your linebackers aren’t executing, you make adjustments. Who coaches the Lb’s again?

It simply looked like the defensive players had no idea what to do...most likely because they were not paying attention in meetings this week and were still riding that Bama high.

Delpit coming in run support, from the deep safety position, has not been pretty this year.

Delpit in the close LOS slot coverage has worked better, for both run support and pass coverage.

Delpit got exposed and it wasn’t just last night. ...

Delpits injury is some of reason but not all.

With Bama on the schedule right before Ole Miss, how much time do you think was devoted to stopping that zone read?

Call it right or wrong, that’s up to you.

It wasn’t a personnel issue, LSU’s LBs have been very good all year.

It was a game planning issue. I’m not going to hate if they only spent one week on this.

5-7 years ago everyone was running zone read, so it was a much more frequent talking point at practice. Not so much anymore.

Most definitely a preparation issue. It’s not that big a deal. People are overreacting.

The zone read is not rocket science. Our Lb’s looked slow and I don’t know how you can fix that.

We over pursue and over run a lot of plays. Need to get back to fundamental tackling drills working inside to outside

I also think part of it is opponents not having to scheme to avoid a Devin white type player. Other than Stingley, offensive coordinators can use their entire playbook.

I actually think this is the perfect defense for a guy like the honey badger. Also, with the emergence of the RPO offense, we should be playing more press coverage at the line of scrimmage. We keep getting burned on spread formations on inside throws where safeties are playing back but man

I feel like Chaisson is too concerned with making big plays, and feels like he has to because of his hype. If he just stops going for a sack every play and be smarter, he would do much better.

The defense needs to be better in the coming weeks.

This performance is fine for Arkansas and probably A&M but against Georgia and playoff teams?

Man, how ironic if Aranda ends up costing LSU a NC.
