re: Davis: LSU "working through things" to have Nuss play bowl game but not lose redshirt

Does a redshirt really matter anymore with the Transfer portal? The odds of LSU holding onto Nuss his whole Collegiate career seems pretty slim.
No kidding. Why redshirt. QBs don’t stick around long if they aren’t going to start. Mack Jones is the only good one that comes to mind that has recently waited his turn to essentially only play one year as a starting QB.

I get you. But from a competitors standpoint, why would you not want to play in a bowl game? I treasured every moment of college competition at DI level even when I was getting my stuff pushed in :-)

Let’s be real
You didn’t ‘cherish’ getting your shite pushed in until later on in life

He shouldn’t give up his redshirt for a bowl game that doesn’t have championship ramifications. I don’t think LSU would allow him to. I’d love to see Kirklin at QB just once or the walk on.

2) As soon as Max put himself in the portal, Nuss was starting the bowl game. He probably talked to his dad, Davis, and Kelly, but he absolutely wants to play. And I think he will.
3) Why in the world, if a loophole that could potentially benefit both Nuss AND LSU, not at least attempt to be exploited,
4) No matter what the ruling, Nuss will play.
I understand this line of thinking. It's fairly logical. It's 100% speculation though.
If he doesn't play, I believe he's gone. His chances at starting at LSU are by beating out Howard. Beating out Brennan next year would help a lot in that effort. Neither are likely. His best chance of it happening is to start impressing people asap.

I don't see the NCAA doing us any favors. They've already screwed the game so much that a team to go into bowl season with 50 players or less. No foresight at all.

It's not about one kid from LSU. There shouldn't be any penalty for a player or school by having someone participate in what is essentially an exhibition game. This would help many players and schools.

If you don't play, pay back your scholarship and gtfo.

Go back inside grandpa! Nobody's paying back shite. Sad sorry take, come up with something that can fix the situation and stop yelling about the one thing that will never happen!

Why not play a walk on? Seriously. Give the guy a chance. It’s a 6-6 bowl with an interim coach and half the team gone/out

We have two walk-on QBs, both true freshman. One weighs 167 pounds. I'd rather take my shot having Kirkland play QB.

I’ll have to check the dates, but I’ve done a 180 on this since Myles decided to come back. I think it makes much less sense for Nuss to play if he doesn’t have a legit chance to win the starting job next year, which I don’t think he does barring another Myles injury. I still think if it were up to him he’d play, but I bet his dad and Coach Kelly agree that it’s not in Nuss’s or LSU’s best interests for him to give up that 5th year at this point.

I agree his best chance of beating out Howard is to beat out Brennan next year and be the incumbent, but I don’t necessarily think he’ll automatically transfer if he doesn’t. He signed with LSU last December when we still had Brennan, Max, and TJ—all who had started games games in the prior 3 months, 2 of whom were just 1 class ahead—and Howard already committed. He may not have predicted Myles coming back for the ‘22 season, but he certainly wouldn’t have predicted both TJ and Max not being here for it, and that helps him more than Myles coming back hurts him. So why would he transfer now (after ‘22) of he wouldn’t have previously? What’s changed since he signed that makes it worse for him in the future? I’d argue his situation is better than when he signed.

what's your response if it is BK making the determination not to burn Nuss's redshirt for this bowl game?
Might mean there's no place for you with us - best if you transfer...or...might mean we think you could play here let's save that year.

It would be a big benefit for Nuss to play just in the experience he would gain from playing an entire game. Especially with it being the last game of the season. He would have the entire offseason to reflect on it and know what he needs to work on and have a better understanding of the speed of the game and all that. Just look at the gains Burrow made from year one to year two.

If that's the case, then only a transfer would make sense.

I mean, he could wait to see if he loses the job in 2023, but then he would have lost the year that he's so desperately clinging to...and he could be in exactly the same spot by redshirting next year (under assumption Brennan beats him out).
It just doesn't make any logical sense that he'd choose not to play and stay. Choosing not to play and leaving, makes sense. Choosing to play and staying makes sense. Hell, he's not going to be handed the job if he transfers after losing the job in the spring. That right there gets him his 5th year. So, even if he plans on seeing how he does in the spring, playing in this game makes sense.
