The link below is the first time I have actually heard Dave Aranda speak and this guy should be LSU HC. I really hope that CEO has a good year, but if he doesn't workout, Aranda is easily the best option.

I didn't know he and Tom Herman were college roommates at one time.....

I agree, he's the guy we should invest in.

What do you think it will take for CEO to have a successful year?

If Orgeron didn't end up working out, I highly, highly doubt they promote another assistant. While it doesnt mean I think Aranda cant do the job. Man would that look dumb to do in consecutive hires...especially when Aranda was around the first time.

They cant do that kind of PR nightmare.

He’s the only coach with a guaranteed contract, and the highest paid DC in the nation.....pretty sure LSU has invested in Aranda just fine to this point...

I’m legit scared that he could leave one day..
Like imagine if we have a top 5 defense this year and all these schools come calling.
Worst case scenario is we get stuck with O and Aranda gets away... I don’t even like thinking about it.

The schedule is pretty tough, but I expect 2-3 losses to be considered a success....

5 or more losses is a failure to me and cause for a change.

From an X's and O's stand point, Aranda may be one the smartest guys in all of football. I have no doubt that he could be a top 5 OC if he wanted.

My only concern is that he doesn't have the personality type to be a HC or that he even wants to be a HC.

Schools HAVE come calling. He stayed.
He could have worked with Jimbo but chose O. I'd say no need to worry.

Certainly a possibility.

He definitely has the personality to be a head coach. He doesn't have to do it how other people do it. He can be a head coach how he wants to be.

This. There's been speculation he doesn't want the overarching responsibility of a head coach. Especially a college one. In college things are so political and you have to deal with a lot more BS to keep the program in a good place. In the NFL you have the owner and GM to deal with all of that. He is a tempting choice though to tap as a potential replacement for Orgeron because he just seems to have everything so together and have a laser focus. Those are critical components of long term success.

I see what you are saying BUT, what if the right school comes calling and they offer him something he can’t turn down?
Definitely still a reason to worry.

Aranda isn’t going to be anything but an interim coach at LSU. This O experiment is going to be the second time the whole hiring from within thing bites LSU in the arse. Alleva will ultimately lose his job over the O hire. LSU is not going to hire from within for a 3rd time. At least not anytime soon.

I remember during the '03 season thinking Saban had the personality of a drumstick.

Obviously, "personality" isn't a requirement, and a lot of time who these coaches really are isn't fully displayed when they are on the job.

So this personality argument against Aranda is kind of dumb.

Again, I'll point out that FSU was Jimbo's first head coaching gig. I agree that "hiring within" is a scary proposal now, but Aranda is of a different cut, and you'd have to be damn sure about who you are hiring before entertaining the idea of letting Aranda walk.

I really thought A&M was going to snag him when Jimbo went to College Station.

Aranda seems loyal AF and he probably sees the writing on the wall that O will be clipped with a subpar season and the job is his for the taking.
