I still felt good about the team b/c we could have won 2 out of 3.

So are we concluding it is possible to go from feeling good about a team to feeling bad about a team but not vise versa?

You seriously think this team (same team as last year) minus Mikie Mahtook is HOSTING?

When's the last time LSU had fans doubting (slightly worried) about beating an Ivy league team at home?

I use logic to arrive to likely scenarios.

Does basketball not need to have the house cleaned?
Is this LSU baseball team up to par? This is like Alabama football if they would've kept Shula for another 5 years.

Yes. I have never said losing 2 0f 3 to App. St. was the end of the season....but last year I felt good about the team after the Fla series and we all know how that went.

Of course not. If this team somehow has the bats wake up and finds a bullpen, I'll be a lot more upbeat about them if they can win 7/12 of MSU, Auburn, Arky, and UF. I don't think that's too hard a task.

I think they're like the banana slugs or the heinekens or something. Maybe the big green.

But all I know is, it's very telling when there's even a single question of whether LSU will sweep.

If this team solidifies the #3 starter,
Finds there bats,
Finds its timely hitting,
Finds a catcher who can throw to second base,
Improves outfield defense,
Finds a middle reliever,
And finds a closer...

Then by gollie I think we can host

That is more a reflection of college baseball these days though. you cant ever assume sweeps anymore, no matter who it is. but you would think you could assume a series win and to not get blown out by inferior competition.

10 years ago the question would be how many hr's, hits, and runs will we have.

Now here is a little perspective from Aarron Fit of Baseball America!

Mike (Arkansas): Aaron, LSU's lack of offense will keep them from competing in the SEC this season. Agree or disagree ?

Aaron Fitt: Disagree. LSU will certainly compete, because its pitching staff has a chance to be one of the best in the nation. It's going to be a grind; LSU will have to win games the way Texas is used to winning games, not the way LSU fans are accustomed to watching. But I think there are some competent offensive players in that lineup, and I think this team will hit better than it did this weekend — there's no question about that.

and then this

Clear Head (Uranus): If LSU is the 14th best team in the country, then..... Damn! I cant even finish that sentance. WTF?

Aaron Fitt: It's baseball, folks. Good teams lose series to teams that aren't as talented. It is a mistake to form sweeping judgments based on one weekend in February. We knocked LSU down seven spots in the rankings — a pretty substantial drop — but it's one bad weekend. Let's not be too reactionary.

Aaron Fitt: You just can't take a football or basketball mentality to baseball — it's not the same. Nobody goes undefeated in baseball. It's a long season, people lose games. People go through slumps and hot streaks. We ranked LSU in the Top 10 in the preseason because we believe that team will be good, just as we ranked Texas in the top 15 because we believe that team will be good. We are not prepared to abandon those opinions yet. Let's see how the season plays out a little bit. Repeat after me: It's February, it's February, it's February...

Kind of true if we were playing a decent OOC. But with this schedule, there's no reason to have more than 2 losses heading into SEC play.

I'm with you there, but I was more meaning that losing those two close games took the air out of the team's sails...and it all went south afterwards.

I agree with all that. I've been saying that this whole time.

Yes I know. I just thought "man we really competed against UF we may really be good"....but I was wrong

And it kinda sucks that I think that way now. From 85 thru 2000 I always felt we would be competitive against anyone we played. We were LSU and it meant something. It is just hard for me to accept we aren't an elite program right now. I am sure we will be again but teams aren't intimidated by the name on the uni's anymore

You are aware that Appy St. has been steadily improving over the last few seasons in a fairly competitive conference (SoCon)...right?

It's not like Arkansas-Pine Bluff or some other bottom feeder in the SWAC came in and did that to LSU.

Edited to add:

And as many folks keep repeating: This was baseball, not football, in the month of February. Too early to start panicking like many are.
