This is from a report on ESPN.com about how all the rookie QBs are doing in their first practices. Sounds like he's doing well.

quote:

Wearing the unusual No. 58 -- as Bill Belichick hasn't given rookies permanent jersey numbers -- Etling accounted well for himself in the first practice open to reporters and then in a post-practice interview. He showed solid arm strength, which is something offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels noted as a strong trait, and seemed to get the players in and out of the huddle without issue. There's obviously a long way to go at this point, but Etling seemed to take advantage of the expanded repetitions he wouldn't have received if Tom Brady were present, as he worked behind veteran Brian Hoyer. Said Hoyer: "I can speak from my own experience, this isn't an easy system to come into as a rookie. You get a lot thrown at you, and I think Danny is doing a good job."

Noodle arm!

I hope Etling lights it up and enjoys his time in the NFL.

Perhaps our staff couldn't show him how to deliver it with more velocity.

Completed over 60% of his passes for 2200 yards with a 14-2 TD to INT ratio.

And yet I still hear that 2013 was the only year we've had good QB play the past decade.

Etling was never elite and we never won games because of him, but he was a very solid QB at LSU and better than alot of people gave him credit for.

He was efficient but put up a ton of garbage yards.

Etling isn't a bad QB by any stretch of the imagination, but he was helped by Canada's offense and playcalling. He didn't take risks and reminded me a lot of JJ in 2009. Has potential, but only had one year of actual QB coaching at LSU, then we fired that guy.

Remember when Jefferson threw for ~2200 yards, 17 TDs and 7 INTs against a much tougher schedule? That didn't make him a great QB either.

Etling is a tough SOB. He will put his heart into the game without a doubt.

With the right team and coaching, he could be a decent NFL QB.

Isn't that every college QB? Half the games are garbage games.

Coach Eaux has molded him to be just fine as a rookie QB.

Hope Danny makes the team. Danny was much better than the credit he received at LSU. Miles may still be at LSU if he could have recognized it too.

I hope Etling leads the Pats to a superbowl just so I can see this board implode.

The same Josh McDaniels that drafted Tim Tebow in the first round?
