Throwing late into the flats at the goal line is a recipe for disaster.
Can’t believe we’re dissecting a touchdown right now

Tim Tebow couldn’t pass for shite. Never saw gator fans complaining when he scored a td. Run or pass. shite is bizarre.

if tim was a shitty passer what is JD then?

Someone who I’m not complaining about when he chooses to run instead of pass for a td.
People keep asking “why didn’t Daniels pass?” And at the same time answering their own question. He did what he’s best at. Why is that bad?

I agree with OP
HOWEVER, I'll say hesitation = lost yards
I admire the decisiveness JD plays with

So now we're complaining about how we score TD's. I guess that's progress.

Daniels TD run
How about we score whatever way we can, K? Obviously, whether or not he was open is debatable. Let’s just be happy Daniels saw the opening and went for it.
Some folks never happy. Remember the old Darryl Royal adage : when you pass the ball three things can happen and two of them are bad. Daniels judged Goodwin could block the closest defender and he could beat the other to the goal line. Right on all counts.

The problem with that picture is, Jayden’s head is looking to the left instead of when it should have been looking to Boutte, that’s the called play. You’re not running a rub right there and it not be your first read.

All you have to do is scroll down to the second pic, you’ll see why he ran the ball
Posted on 9/19/22 at 5:43 pm to CharlestonTiger
And if he throws a pick six, you’re showing pictures from the end zone of the wide open running lane.

No, like I said, in the first pic, he should have been concentrated on the Boutte route. You’re not running that as your secondary option, it’s your primary option and an “ on time “. route. In the first pic, at that moment, he should have been releasing the ball to Boutte.

Spot on. To some people he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

I can't be that fortunate to live through a fourth.
It makes the Colly Mac, Hallman, and Dinardo droughts worth the wait.

Yea I think the concern (not complaint) is that he ran this knowing the play call is a rub route, and yet he doesn’t wait for that to even develop.

quote:Three things...
I wouldn't call that covered like white on rice, but I can see why he would abandon that throw
1. Boutte is showing no signs of being ready to get the ball at the time he crosses the rub, which is the best moment for the ball to arrive. Now, that's part of a WRs repertoire is not showing a defender too early that you're getting ready. However, if Boutte isn't ready and JD throws out instead of corner of end zone that's a dangerous play with the coverage able to undercut it and pick 6.
2. He's staring him down, which is bad enough in of itself. But those Ss or LBs to the field side of Goodwin are playing the angles to cut that throw, not going for JD directly. They are headed to the passing lane.
3. No way in hell the MSU DL decided to do an overload to the boundary side on a goal line medium play. That's designed (and very good) blocking by our guys. That play is being blocked like a run up the middle. Period. Goodwin shows no sign of releasing, or blocking those guys headed for the pass lane.
CONCLUSION: The option to pass might be there, but he's staring them down to draw them wide (pass lane), Goodwin is delaying to lead block (which he whiffs), Boutte is always going to draw attention and is running the longest route possible to the field side and not looking for the ball, blocking is sealing down (very well to the left). This is a designed run. Goodwin and those seal blocks confirm it. And that's why JD is staring Boutte down, there's more defenders than blockers- this is how you negate one and get them out of the box (a form of misdirection).

State read it right. He fell down late.Greg m . Thought Daniels made the right decision there

This play will go down as the most hated td in lsu history.
Im amazed it’s being analyzed to this level.
